As a Gambler, should you be an " Expert " on your local sports teams ?

I asked this question to a buddy of mine from Philadelphia and he could only name a few players on the eagles teams
4 players on the 76's , three players on the Flyers and between all of the CBB teams in the area, he almost knew nothing.

But he wagers on all of the above

I say yes, it's about as inside of information as you could get

More relevant in smaller markets though

Big city teams garner too much national attention

Absolutely not...it's a biz, don't bet $ on your fav. team, it clouds your judgment.

I usually bet unders on Padres games for the first month or two. They struggle to score.

There was a time, back in the space age and before, where the local information was the most and easiest to obtain so, yes, more knowledge of local teams was almost necessary because of that availability.

Nowadays, information is everywhere and easy to get. We moved from the space age to the information age and a bettor in Texas can easily access local radio, newspaper, etc. information for teams in Chicago, or anywhere.

So no, the local isn't as necessary unless you have access to non public information. It's easier to make contacts or get in your local stadium or locker room than it would be in across the country, because of travel.

One day a hyper loop or or crazy ass plane could solve that problem.

They tried that once, you could get from England to New York in like an hour, but that didn't end well.

Exactly. It's even easier to penetrate colleges than the pros. That can be valuable local information.

    Spot on Dawgy.

But once you've chosen the winners, or good bets, that local info can help keep you on or take you off the bet.

    Not every good bet wins.

So I guess I'm saying not all winners win.

That's why it's so hard to beat sports.

Should be that way but I've found that at least 80% of gamblers are terrible when it comes to "their" team. Simply too much emotion attached for most to put that aside and make rational decisions. Not necessarily even when backing them, when they fade it typically out of bad emotion.

I pride myself on being good with my teams, which only baseball cardinals and blues to lessor extent (not real into hockey). Last year was a unfortunate exception as cardinals were incredibly tough for me to get a handle on but most years I do pretty well on, against, and totals. I will admit that gets thrown out when they in playoffs, the dumb fan in me takes over then but I usually know this and limit my bet sizes in those situations. Blues another story, I fade them in playoffs plenty as they perennial playoff chokers!!

I normally take advantage of acquaintances (in bowling league/at bars I frequent a lot) fandom and set redic season long props they jump all over our home teams no matter the numbers/lines! Lol.

Ultimately I only care about team Banker and my bank account!!

i try to avoid betting on the Detroit pro teams and the local college teams in SE Mich, unless I find a good spot to do so. Hate routing against my teams hoping I win a bet. Takes the fun out of it for me.

That why I say in playoffs it goes out window for me with cardinals as I do have a bit of emotional attachment there. Here the trick to making it easier, just realize other than NFL for the most part individual regular season games are meaningless especially in pro sports. I mean every MLB team losing at least 50-60 games minimum, NBA and NHL pretty much every team with a pulse makes the playoffs. Even if you really care about a team it not as if a regular season game means anything!!

THis is why I rarely, rarely bet the Raptors or Jays!
