Quick reminder on handle vs. revenue: The term “handle” represents the total sum of all wagers placed. “Revenue” is what’s left over after sportsbooks pay out the winning tickets — the gross profit.

NJ data is separated by operator, of which there are currently three. The revenue numbers break down like this, bearing in mind that the Ocean Resort Casino just opened on June 28:

    Monmouth Park: $2,279,166
    Borgata: $986,831
    Ocean Resort Casino: $192,671
Betting handle is also itemized by sport and type:

MLB: $10.1 million total, $130,177 futures
Soccer: $2.2 million total, $500,247 futures
    NFL: $280,611 futures

Land-based sports betting revenue is taxed at a rate of 8.5 percent, so the state of New Jersey earned just less than $300,000 across the reporting period. Projections vary, but some lawmakers expect to realize annual tax revenue approaching $100 million.

If we extrapolated the NJ sports betting numbers across a 30-day month, they’d look like this:

    Handle: $28,958,151
    Revenue: $6,103,532
    Taxes: $518,801

The reporting method makes direct comparison a little tricky, but you can see the recent data from other states here:

It’s not bad but the revenues are only going to pay the bills and employees but it’s better than nothing and generates job and crowds to promote other businesses

It's good jj. When the hard Rock casino gets a sports book in Tulsa. (Oklahoma by next year). I'll invite you to Tulsa for a few days stay there at hard Rock and give you two $100 bets. I'll pay the juice up to -115. I saw three jackpots hits on the main floor within a hour or so. The gal I was with, I sponsored her slots play. I don't play at all, I was there for the blow job. (Sloppy).

Of course forgets to mention that online wagering should be up and running in a few weeks. Can only imagine what the numbers will be then.

When the general public who have not gambled simply because it was illegal start to get involved the numbers will bloat. That might take quite a few years for public perception to change. But it will happen and the states will hit their big revenue targets eventually.

Did the state of New Jersey offer scratch tickets - power ball - video lottery - anything like that? Will some states feel their revenue would fall way off on those forms if they were to legalize sports betting?

The bill attaches an 8.5 percent tax to winning sports bets placed at brick-and-mortar locations,
along with a 13 percent levy from winning bets made online.

Question: is that a walk-away number or do you have to file over the IRS threshold in addition

What the hell? A month handle would be 30 mil and the book would keep a revenue of 6 mil? That's about 20%. Unless they are counting futures as handles and 100% revenue since they haven't been paid out yet.

It’s been great at Borgata !!! I’m doing well and some buddies of mine . Can’t believe the money that is finally in our hands . We been hanging at Borgata every day . I have a house up north jersey. ( good rentals). And house (shore ) where I live and it’s been exciting ! Say the least. I met to guys up in upstate and gave me 2 ufc fighters and both won (dan +220 ) was very nice to hit . Been betting Boston and against Mets and doing great ! It’s going to explode every day and beyond football . We get paid cash !! Few guys were negative because they don’t have money and see nothing else to say to guys winnings. (The odds are high and you can’t win ) yea right. My buddy won over 47 ,000 already. Betting against Mets and Os. So instead of being negative, congratulate and you get a few free drinks on him . Some guys are so stupid , well it’s been great and hope some guys here join in and win !! Borgata plans are awesome on new sports book . I seen the beautiful plan that it’s going to look like . Can’t wait to get my noir card almost there !

Good one but you’re going down a path of compulsive gambling

Way better things to do in life then gamble every day stop wasting your time

I’m already out walking in a beautiful park and rarely ever touch casinos or sports books

We are from a cast system and raise that’s not proper to be around nor associate with gamblers in person
