Washington WR John Ross did not win an island for running the fastest 40-yard dash in NFL Combine history because he was wearing Nike shoes during his run.
Adidas offered an island -- or $1 million cash -- to any prospect who broke Chris Johnson's previous record of 4.24 seconds, set in 2008. While the NFL confirmed Ross' official time of 4.22 seconds, Adidas said it wouldn't be gifting Ross a tropical paradise because he was wearing a competitor's kicks during the run. Ross handled the snub in stride. "I really can't swim that well," Ross said. "And I don't have a boat, so, you know, I had to run in Nikes." All is well that ends well: Nike signed Ross to a contract shortly after his record sprint.
