If you could live anywhere in the US....

    Where would you choose?

We're looking at moving and right now I've eliminated basically the entire midwest due to low wages in my profession.

Primarily looking in Cali and Oregon, specifically Bend

    Any thoughts?

What about the traveling nurse in the motor home idea?

Doesn't that pay well? It could be tough with kids.

I think you may have already looked into this idea.

I hope all is well Kraken.

Sharp move would be Virgin Islands. Cali/Oregon move would be a square move.

I'm north of Seattle and I would stay in the Pacific NW region. South to about Medford is as far as I would go, east to Coeur d'alene, maybe Boise. I just spent a week in the summer down in Sisters, Bend area seems nice.

Not ruled out 100%, but it would be tough. I was able to talk to others that did it, very few were successful and even less enjoyed it. Main reason is its tough to find an rv park in the south during winter months and north during summer months. We could reverse course and be miserable but that doesnt sound fun.

We're on the same track of thinking. PNW would be my first choice, but outside of Seattle. I need land. We've looked at Arlington and Monroe as possible destinations. Couer d'alene I glanced at, maybe I will revisit that.
Cali would be for the $$$

But I keep coming back to bend. $$$ is good, sign on, relocation bonus, etc.... Good outdoor lifestyle, good beer

Since your job affords you the ability to travel and work, why don't you set up a rotational living situation. You can set it up so that you can buy houses in the areas you like and do short term rentals when you are not in the house. 1031 into the properties from your others in OK. Easy peasy.

If you are willing to go to the east coast, the areas north of Philadelphia are pretty decent. Taxes are lower in PA vs other states around, close to 2 major cities (New York and Philadelphia), land and such is cheaper than in NJ or NY, hours drive or so to the beach.

You left out The California sales tax rate is currently 6.0%. However, California adds a mandatory local rate of 1.25% that increases the total state sales and use tax base to 7.25%. Depending on local municipalities, the total tax rate can be as high at 9.75%. Also the housing costs are out of control, prisons are overflowing, seasonal disasters, gang violence, liberal overrun in the state, Cops, and last but not least Mexico is down on the border and trouble is ahead with Trump in the tower making decisions. Other than that, its a great place to live.

Nobody wants to live in California. Cost of living too high and too many people live there. South of San Fran is weird. Nothing north of San Fran but trees, bears, and elk.

Actually scratch that...I could live in Lake Tahoe.

This is a difficult question without Kraken giving more details. Are you married, kids, about to have kids? Do you like snow winters, 4 seasons? Do you like the outdoors, indoors? What are your hobbies? Do you like looking at beautiful woman, beautiful scenery, architectural structures, nature preserves, etc.? I've lived all over the US and certain places were good for me at a certain time. I loved Southern California when I was single and had a lot of money. It would be one of the worse places for me being married with kids. I lived in Reno, too cold and too small for my likes. Seattle too rainy, not enough clear days. Cleveland too much snow for too many months. Orlando, Miami have too many people from somewhere else, the local community is very small and fragmented and not a lot of technical jobs. I could go on and on about so many cities but it depends on you. I always say that the grass is greener where you water it. So make any city the best city for you.

Find out what you like first. That would help.
