For better or worse, the eternal model of journalism's is the Watergate story where courageous journalists "speak truth to power". I don't know when exactly that died (or if it ever was non-partisan) but speaking truth to power was DOA for 8 straight years under Obama. A lone journalist accidentally caught Bill Clinton meeting on a private jet with Obama's Atty General in Phoenix right before his wife was cleared of charges from overwhelming evidence of criminality that was spilling out from hackers.
