Self Exclusion for online gambling - help and advice needed

    Hey everyone,

Over the course of the last 5 years or so I have had a lot of ups and downs with gambling, especially online. I have reached the point where I just can't and don't want to deal with the downs anymore and it has caused a lot of negative things in my life from work, to relationships to financial stability.

I know ultimately the decision is on me to figure out how to remove gambling from my life, but I am hoping to get some suggestions and advice from anyone who has gone through the same thing and that might know more about the process than I do.

I mainly use two books now...LooseLines and Jazz Sports (due to the fact that I have self-excluded or been blocked from every other site known out there). I have recently attempted to self-exclude from both of these via email and requested that my account be closed down permanently and not to allow me to use the account again, make any more deposits, create a new account, etc. Again - I know that no one is supposed to be my babysitter, but in moments of weakness, each and every time they gladly turned back on my account like nothing happened and I continued to repeat the cycle.

Does anyone know of a way to permanently self-exclude myself from an online site in a way that they have to honor it? Within reason of course like if I used my phone number, real name, address, etc.

Anyways, thanks in advance for the help.

I went to my first GA meeting yesterday after calling the gambling hotline for the first time this weekend. I feel like I am taking a step in the right direction and am committed, but it's also something I've been fighting for like 5+ years trying to quit.

I know I need to man up and just deal with it, but it sucks that there's always the opportunity right at my finger tips. Are legit online books not required to enforce self-exclusions or anything like that? I know there are some rules about normal casinos...I just really don't know enough about it to know if I have any options that will truly make it so I don't even have the option anymore with those two particular books.

Did u let the book know why you are shutting down your account because you "problem gambling issues'' once u state that they should not be reopening your account. Contact the gambling licnese authority for those two books and tell them they are reinstating accounts permenantley closed due to problem gambling.

You might have a case im prettt sure once u state you have a problem and close your account it should be permenantley closed

Is it really possible to self exclude yourself from online gambling these days? I don't see how that can be done with all the bitcoin sportsbooks out there. I don't see anyway you can exclude yourself from creating multiple anonymous accounts on Nitrogen.

Call and ask for a re-up bonus, I'm sure you will get it all back on the next deposit.

Why don't you call your debit / credit card companies and cutoff any / all online transactions ?
I know mine contacts me every time I purchase online before it even accepts the charge but I like it that way due to theft .

You can do that, but just like the issue with bitcoin sportsbooks it's easy to get around. You can simply buy a prepaid card and add cash to it.

I really think you need to address the real problem by going to GA or something similar. That's the only option i see that would work.

Have a friend change the password and email address associated with the account to something like esetxfchvnujg;ohyigckvh/yog7f;96ditux

Keep going to GA and any other 12 step meeting for addictions you have a problem with.

Shoot in a sportsbook complaint form and SBR can reach out to them and see if we can get this done for you.

But relying on self exclusion is never going to work really. It just means you are still looking for an 'easy fix' and thinking you do not have control.

About 25 years ago I got myself into a similar position as you and was able to beat the problem and have no problem gambling within my means these days. You can beat it. I don't think it is a real addiction even though it feels like when you are stuck in the mire.

Going to GA is a great idea but I'd warn against getting sucked into their program. Just look around and listen to how bad it really can get and realize that either this is not you, or that you refuse to let that happen to you. Staying in the program is just another crutch that stops you actually beating the problem imho.

And forget trying to tell yourself you need to stop gambling as the Main issue. You need to decide if you really want your family and your job. If the answer to that is yes then just focus on those two as the main issue. People will 'forgive' you and treat you differently almost immediately and it will help you not focus on the betting part. That's like a red herring in taking control again.

Thanks for chiming in everyone. I did specifically say that I was asking to close the accounts due to an online gambling problem. Each time they've been all too happy to turn the account back on though.

I think the main issue is that they saod they can't really stop me from making a Bitcoin deposit which is my usual method. I get that, but I guess from where I'm sitting if I just couldn't even login to the account or create a new account with my address or phone number it would help that. I wouldn't be able to even have the wallet address to send the code to in the first place.

Like I said before I want to make sure this doesn't come off as thinking it's not on me and it should be someone else's problem to solve. Im going to keep up with the GA stuff and do what I can to help myself. Itd just be great to figure out a way to just eliminate that risk that's always there altogether by not having accounts I can always login to and fund with Bitcoin in under 5 mins.

Honestly I feel like my picks are solid I just get carried away and push my luck til it's gone. For example this past weekend I turned $1k into $8k between soccer and NFL but then just gave it all back after trying to up my bets and go for home run parlays.

Unfortunately that's kind of the norm as I've lost count of how many great runs I've gone on lately just to think it wasn't enough and give it all back. I just don't think I'm wired to be responsible and manage it well vs. having shitty picks. Just my opinion I guess.

Exactly... You're wasting your time talking to them and trying to self exclude when you can create an infinite number of anonymous bitcoin accounts.

Panther, I understand what you are going through. In my mid 20s I got my account up to a level that was much higher than it ever had been. I had more money on games than I made in 2 months at work. I got out of control and it got to the point where I was always in a bad mood and instead of stopping I would continue depositing even though it wasn't even fun anymore. I would always push the envelope betting way too many games and it got to the point that I didn't ever feel like I could ever make enough per day. I found myself betting games in sports I didn't know much about just because that was the only thing left that particular day. One day I just had enough. I knew I had to get away from it, needed a break or it was going to ruin my life.

I just quit going to any gambling sites, even quit coming to sbr for I think it was 3 years. The first couple of months I even quit watching any sporting events on tv. That helped because I wasn't constantly thinking about gambling. After that time off I have come back in recent years and it's fun again. The whole experience in the end was worth it as I learned some valuable lessons on self control. You will never win or be happy if you can't sit and watch a game without feeling the need to bet on it.
Good luck guy, step back from it, after time you will not feel it has a grip over you anymore.

Ultimately it's all about self control. You can ban yourself, but there will always be a way to get the account reactivated, or open a new account somewhere else. GA is a good start, take some time off, come back with set limits. If you have a close friend who you can trust and is willing, let him control your account, don't let him give you the password, no matter what you say. Tell him to not let you do anything stupid, even if you get pissed off.

Same here. I believe it happens to many of us. Especially when you're able to win large amounts quickly. You assume you can do it all the time if you eliminate errors here and there; not acknowledging the randomness of sports never changes. Cold turkey worked for me until i was able to come back and have fun as well. Betting amounts you don't mind losing can alleviate many issues. And the love of the action can be one.

Al Pacino was right in the football gambling movie.....many gamblers feel low self-esteem and secretly want to lose. I know it doesn't sound feasible or make sense but its true. I can't count how many times I've carefully built up a nice roll and then blown it with some late night tilt bets. Same thing with poker. I won probably $80,000 playing poker during the poker boom in 2004-05 but blew all but the $15K I put down on my house. Find a nice girlfriend or friends and live a full life and don't torture yourself with chasing bets. Good Luck!!!

Don't bet money unless it's set aside from all family and well being. You sound like an emotional bettor , those thrive on ups and downs bc that is literally your well being your using as a adrenaline high. Recipe to lose everything you have.

It's really only a gambling problem if you lose. Just pick some winners and will be good again
