Maddon is leaning Lester. Was on mike and Mike a little while ago. Would not confirm but I get the feeling they want to start Lester but maybe taking old Torre approach and using Lester like pettite in game 2 in case they lose game 1. They think they might have no advantage in game 1 against kluber with either guy but in game 2 Lester would be clear better guy over arrieta vs indians starter.
Excellent valid point. And as I said, would set up to have two best pitchers Lester, Hendricks for Games 6-7.
That's the best plan IMO too. I think game 6 will be Lester finishing the series for the Cubs in that spot.
But if Lester goes Game 1 as most expect, would be Arrieta Game 6.

All of this. Plus, Hendricks in Game 3 means at Wrigley where he has excelled and just excelled. It's an ideal setup. And if Hendricks goes in a Game 7, you feel good because he is unflappable and doesn't beat himself.
Point is from a Cubs perspective, I would have preferred Lester/Hendricks last two games.
Moot point now though, Lester officially going in Game 1.

It's so hard to win in baseball. So much luck involved. The Cubs, on paper, look like the way better team. But then again, this series also shows how important having a dominant bullpen is. Kansas City and Cleveland seem to be showing the formula for success. Timely hitting and dominant bullpens.
