Doc's Horse Racing Index for August 20th 2016:

    First the Total's:

Over 25 Races through four days posted at SBR. Winning tickets in 14 of them.

    Exacta $1,248 In $2,235.50 Out +$987.50 Profit ROI = +79.1%

    Trifecta $2,412 In $4,956.27 Out +2544.27 Profit ROI = +105.5%

I started sharing at the right time, but make no mistake there are ebbs and flows to horse racing. Weather its a track bias that isn't account for, or its just a day that the favorites seem to get us right at the wire on every race to cut into the profits. It's important to not wager more than 4% (3% if you can) of your bank on each race.

If you scroll to row 770 you'll see that my top 5 (Column "F") win at a 66% clip with place horse getting there 67% of the time. This hit rate is why I structure tickets the way I do. I have no fear of gamblers ruin, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Good record keeping over the years has helped me weather the losing streaks, and point out weak spots in my handicapping. As you can see I keep track of all my races, and it's all right there for all to see.

I'd have to lose around 30 races before I give up the profit attained here in the last week. In the end I'm just sharing this stuff in hopes of getting more people involved in the Sport Of Kings.

On to Saturday 8/20/2016: Big Stakes Day at Del Mar

Covering SEVEN tracks today and 14 races. Arlington, Del Mar, Ellis Park, Laurel, Monmouth, Saratoga, and Woodbine. Always check back for changes in case of late scratches or track condition changes.

NOTE: Don't bet too early as I will drop a race from the list if the right scratches are made, or if the track conditions change.

At the bottom of the sheet I have wagering bundles, and instruction tabs (3 tabs total). I've tried to come up with the best way to structure tickets for all budgets. I encourage everyone to read this as it explains how the Index works, and the bettor can get the best use out of it.

    Play within your means.

I'm trying to attach my spreadsheet to the thread, but I'm also including a link to my google documents in case the upload doesn't work.

The wager Bundles are in the tabs at the bottom of the spread sheet.

All wagers for whatever amount you want to do are the same if you have the budget. Exacta's can be done for as little as $1, and all tri's except at Woodbine are a minimum of $0.50 cent. Woodbine goes in $0.20 cent intervals.

Most of these races are later in the day except for Race 2 at Ellis which is about 45 minutes from now. Please check for any changes as the tracks West of the Mississippi may not be done updating.

Lets hope for some tax tickets folks!

I've had days where I won only one race, but it paid so well that it covered all the other races. Breeders Cup 2014 it was when I hit the Classic.

    I don't mind helping regardless.

The A Ranked 13/1 gets it done. The trifecta would've been a little better if the six stays ahead of the eight, but I'll take the two cashes. Plus I had win wagers on the duece and the five. Again if the A ranked is around 8/1 or higher close to post time I recommend wagering a win ticket on it and then a win ticket on the horse in the B-C & D rank that have the highest Odds.

Look at how the A ranks have done on the sheet at 8/1 or higher. Row 750 or so.

    Ellis Park - Race 2

Doc, how much are you betting on the win bets?

If you are doing the $2 & $4 exactas and .50 tris?

i was thinking of doing $10 per win bet betting on two horses using your criteria on tab 3?

If you're doing the bundles as described you're win wagers should be $20, and betting two horses to win only when the A Ranked is around 8/1 or so with about a 1 minute to post.

Of course all other bets should be made with about 10 minutes to post. That's not not as critical just as long as you get them in, but if you want to bet win tickets I wait until as close to post time as possible.

For me Rule of thumb is for every straight exacta wager you make your win wager should be 10X that amount. For example if you are in fact doing $4 boxes and $2 straights you're win ticket would be $20 on each for $40 total. Make sure your Roll can stand it.

These Bundles are only suggested wagers. Anyone can bet the Bastards how they want. Maybe you don't like a lot of action so you decide to only bet when the A-Ranked is in fact 7 or 8 to one or higher. Bet with what you're comfortable with. I can't stress that enough.

Me. I'm in on all of them, but I've probably seen it all.

    Peace

    Doc

I'd have to lose around 30 races before I give up the profit attained here in the last week. In the end I'm just sharing this stuff in hopes of getting more people involved in the Sport Of Kings.

    LOL not quite.

your bundles in the large fields cost $201

if you lost 30 in a row you would be so far down ($6210) we could not find a shovel to dig you back out even with this counting as your start point ($3400)

so dont lose 30 in a row

LOL, Thanks. I've never lost 30 in a row, but I did exaggerate a touch in that statement. Majority of the races I'm using the 3 Bundles.

A true grind it out kind of day.

In 14 races I cashed in 7 races with a couple of nice ones at Del Mar, and one good one at Laurel. That 15/1 winner looked like another ticket cashed but the B Ranked just didn't push it in the end.

Totals for the Three Wagering Bundles:

    Exacta: $672 In & $814.80 Out for a ROI of +21.3% Profit of $+142.80

    Trifecta: $1260 in & $1,988.10 Out for a ROI of +57.8% Profit of +$728.10

Hopefully others were along for the ride.

    thanks for sharing your spreadsheets.

played the only two at delmar yesterday which both lost badly and got 0 for 2
had time and played 2 today and got 0 for 2

sitting 0 for 4 races on these fun expensive plays.
takes time to punch these all in also. the eyes start playing tricks.

If you click on the wagering Bundle tabs at the bottom of the sheet you'll see that I've referenced runners "F-G-H", and that's what the "Z" column represents.

The "Instructions" tabs is more for Win betting. If you click on Row 1 and then put the cursor in the "fx" formula window it will bring those up. I come up with those years ago after I started keeping records.
