just like with RLM, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose...I know there are lots of degens on here that bet or follow steam, but there isn't any conclusive data, stats, or evidence one way or the other that supports it...As I've told fellow gamblers for years, the number one handicapping tool is your gut feeling!...if you feel very strong about a play, then bet it!..period!..regardless of what others say...and always bet with your head, not your heart!...keep it simple like this and you should experience some level of success...

I would recommend fading the bolded if you actually want to make money.

Gut feeling is the tried and true method of losing sports bettors.

wrong...maybe for you it is but each case is unique and different...you should know that by now....it all depends on who've you talked to..it's done wonderfully well for me...just saying...I can't tell you how many times I was going to bet on a certain side, then listened to some A$$holes on ESPN and on these boards, and then it influenced me and I changed my mind and wound up losing the wager that I should have won if I went with my original pick.

It should depend on the situation. Every game is an individual issue within the context of the market. Sudden, larger line movements will influence bettors, and the books know it.

If you just chase, or fade, movement, based solely on the movement, the books will eat you alive before the sharps even get a chance at hone the line against you.

If you can predict where the line is going beforehand, and why, then you will be armed with far better information to make a choice about that movement.

Try to understand and predict, otherwise you are acting at the whim of the bookie's moves.

For the good "gut" bettors, and I have posted on this before, it can be an invaluable tool. Years of experience in subjective betting can result in an excellent intuitive feel. Some guys are very good at this type of betting.

The problem occurs in the long haul. Like other types of bettors, the streaks and emotions involved can get to the "gut" bettor, short circuiting both intuitive thought and rational thinking.

When betting with the gut always keep a level head; anything less at the wrong time could result in downward spiral real fast.

you win some, you lose some...that's the bottom line...all I'm saying is go with what you like and don't let others influence your decision...more often than not, you'll be disappointed.

Disturbing to think of Hippys taste in women.

Steam at certain books is up on different sports and down on others. Hard to really do consistently year in and year out. Ex Pinny steam great in nhl one year or only good in totals and vice versa. Setting your own line somehow and looking at the psychology has helped me improve....mentally.

I've tried "following the steam" more than once and have been burned on several occasions...never again......If I go down, I'll go down with my own handicapping and on my terms, not someone else's!...

Forget the steam moves and trying to beat the closing line!! The smart money is not always smart.!However, and this is a gut feel that takes years to decipher....in college football, esp. the noon kickoffs, about 20-30 min. before, one may see big moves on the games and totals....fade theses moves! It will take time to figure out,but you will figure it out. And on another note: for myself, it is very important and I put a lot of " stock" in it......Is the price were the game opens up!!!....in all sports!!....remember that the books know much more then we do and there is a reason for every price and move!..............Maybe a post for another day...to follow or fade!...............gl

I don't mind going against steam except for when the sport is Tennis. Looks to me like every line move in tennis is sharp. Surprising.
