Good luck NC. A lot of us have been there, and you still came out ahead. You might be on to something though. Put in less time on your picks, and then fade yourself. You'd be at about $12000 by now.

have you considered trying to make time at different parts of the day. When I get busier with life and have to put gambling on the sideburner, I somehow find a way to handicap late at night or wake up a little earlier to do my gambling research. Family should never suffer because of gambling but in my case, I can always find a way to manage my time so I can do both effectively.

Be smart when you jump back in. Don't try to chase what you lost. Start over with whatever bankroll you feel ok with and convince yourself it's a fresh start. One of my biggest mistakes was always trying to chase lost money. For some reason I felt like it was owed to me... so I had to reach that magical number to be 'even' again. And then even if I were say 10$ short, I'd make another bet, which of course would lose and then the whole shitty cycle would start again.

Chasing, believing you're due, feeling like surely you're smarter than the system... all shitty traps we've all fallen in. You have a new baby, an awesome family, a sense of only bet $20 units when some may laugh at that but to me that's the smartest thing of all... life's too short for the stress NC. Much love to you and the family as always. xo

    thats a good post shari.

I like the idea of a fresh start. I think that is important so that you get yourself in a healthy mindset and don't put so much pressure on yourself.

I think if you talk to any chronic gambler, or even someone who just found themselves in a bad spot a few times... one of the biggest issues they'd say is that they were chasing lost money. Even if the lost money was won money.

So for example I went to the casino with $500. Made a sportsbet, won $450. Now have $950. Lost some playing blackjack, now at $850. Made another bet that lost, now at $650. Instead of thinking "whoa I'm up $150 which is some decent drinks at the club" instead a dego thinks "I need to make that $300 I lost back".

And then as sure as I'm Shari it all goes pear shaped. And then not only do you usually lose the original $500 you started with plus your $150 winnings, then you start dipping into your bank and betting with more cash. Bets on all sorts of games. Korean ping pong anyone?!

We all think we're special in the moment but none of us are. We're all the same sickos as those who came before us 200 years before. It's a matter of doing it properly.

just get rid of the sleep buddy, that how i roll. long as i avg bout 3 hrs a night, not necessarily get 3 hrs a night.

that gives me time for capping w/o screwing with everything else. oh and take breaks instead of nonstop grinding, ive never understood how the hell you could never take a break!? i need them. whether im running good or bad, i dont care. when i feel like a break i take one..makes sense if you were doing most the work while at work, ive never had that luxury so sleep must be sacrificed! luckily i tend to function better with the less is more approach to sleep anyways..

This is so spot on... this has always been my downfall, not so much with sportsbetting but with poker. I dont always do it, but more often than not I do. I'm up a lot of money playing poker in my life, but that number should be about 10 times what it is if I didn't plow through a shitload of winnings. Cant tell you how many times I turned a few hundered into a few thousand only to lose a little of it and chase it all the way down to nothing. I never had this problem when I was dipping into my own funds, but when I was playing with winnings. When you were up 3,000 and then lose 2,000 of it, it doesnt feel like you are up 1,000, it feels like you are down 2,000.

A good way to combat this is to set goals when you go to the casino, or gamble anywhere for that matter. I used to be fairly disciplined when it came to this. Id go to the casino with $500 and try to turn it into $1500, once I hit $1500 or $0 I would leave...

in my young and dumb years it never mattered to us how much we were up, we wernt leaving the boat till it was all gone, sometimes we were smart enough not to go grab a couple more stax and go back.. remember seeing one of my ppl at the crap table one day and he was on nice heater, probably up 10-15k. i was like "nice my man, you buying drinks?", he says "10k more and ill be even from last night"..

Biggest mistake gamblers make is building a bankroll. No need to build. You only need to maintain it. Set a goal of cashing out once you are up a certain amount of units. Take the cash and enjoy spending it. The whole enjoyment of gambling is spending the winnings in something you love. Spend it on a nice dinner, a new pair of shoes, tickets to a sports game. Enjoy life. Don't be the miserable fukk who only builds bankrolls and never spends it.

ok, dont believe it. my once in a while is pulling a all nighter so i can sleep good the next night. my norm is asleep round 1-2 am and getting up at 5 am. i do throw in afternoon naps from time to time and sometimes im exhausted to the point those turn into a lot of sleep that given evening, not real often tho. for me personally im sharper and generally feel better overall with less than 4 hrs opposed to more..
