Anybody Get to See "The Gambler?"

I just saw the movie and thought Mark Wahlberg's character was way more in-depth than the movie had time to protray. Overall I'd give it a 6 out of 10.

But I have a few questions about the movie that stumped me a bit, perhaps someone in here who also saw it can clarify a few things:

    (1) Was Mark Wahleberg intentionally trying to get himself killed (they mentioned suicide a lot in the film)?
Could be thought of as a bi-polar genius contemplating suicide?

    (2) Can some one break down the dollar amount he owed at the end (plus the points) to each of those three mobsters and what he did to come up with the money for all three?

Is this movie based off a real life story? The previews look pretty good.

He owed 260 to goodman i believe, i don't recall what his vig was, don't recall them saying. 50 to king of spades plus 10 in juice i think. And wasn't the chinese 240(before second loan), don't know their vig. he took the 260 borrowed from goodman and the 100(maybe it was 150) from second loan from chinks, so thats 360-410. Paid the bball player 150, so leaves 210-260. bet it all on the game, so has around 400k. pays king of spades his money. so has around 350k, but owes over 500k to goodman and chinks. puts it all on black, hits, and is good to go, hence the extra money goodman offered him at the end

How do you put "Marky Mark" in a James Caan roll??

Almost as bad as Adam Sandler taking over for Burt Reynolds in "The Longest Yard".

I liked it. He was no gambler though. More like a crackhead whose smack was all-in bets in games with 5% house edge.

Just saw this. Goodman was trying to consolidate all his gambling debts to the ghetto black and the Asian gangster guy. He said that came to $260,000. The black wanted 20% on the 50K he loaned him so yea that is $60,000 total right there. He owed the Chinaman $240,000 total and the second loan form the Asian was for $160,000. So right there that's $400,000 he owes total to the Chinamen, $60,000 to the Black and $260,000 to a wanna be Polish John Goodman. So I count $720,000 total right there.

Now how much did he bet on the basketball game? Was it the $260,000 he got from Goodman plus the $160,000 he got from the Chinamen? If he bet $420,000 at (-110) and won then Wahleberg now has roughly $780,000 in total. If he pays the ball player $150,000 to fix the game then he still had $630,000 to pay off and only owed $90,000 total.

Doesn't add up. Unless he took the $160,000 he borrowed from the Chinamen and used $150,000 of it to pay off the basketball player....

i agree with this. Such an all-star cast... i love the actors Whalberg, Williams, and Goodman.

given the amount of talent these actors have i think they could have made a better movie but with it being a re-make i guess their ability to be creative was limited.

Weak movie. Makes no sense and plot never comes together; very disjointed.
