Who besides the Cavs, Spurs, and Rockets are capable of winning an NBA Title ????

    Portland maybe?

    Golden State?

    Oklahoma City?

maybe take a stab with the Bulls or Wizards?

i want to make a futures bet just to keep the NBA interesting... i normally can't get into pro basketball but maybe i could if i had a horse in the race.

    whats the best value?

    The Sixers......

    in about 5 years.

OKC has as good shot as any. Durant may leave after this year, now or never.

Well yes, the play there is predicated on hoping Rose stays healthy past Christmas, which if he does the futures are a gift.

Of course, if you think he stays healthy and we see all of him all season, the +1200 or whatever for Rose as season MVP might be worth a few shekels as well.

    My early season predictions...

    1) The West will win. Don't waste your money on the Cavs or the Bulls to win it all. Take a flier on the Heat and maybe the Wizards to win the East if you can get good odds.

    2) If no one in the West has gotten better, the Spurs could win by default if they are healthy. On the other hand, I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose to a team that gets insanely hot in the first couple rounds like when they lost to the Grizzlies in 2011.

    3) If the Clippers learn from last season they have as good a shot as anyone. I have a tough time getting a read on that team so I could be dead wrong but I see potential in them.

    4) You can't overlook OKC even though they seem to have hit a rut and I am having trouble seeing how they could improve over last year. Especially since Scott Brooks is still their coach. I wouldn't touch them given their awful odds.

    5) I'd avoid Houston, Dallas, and Golden State futures unless you can get +5000 or better. Too many things can happen in an NBA season and the West is too good for it to be worth it at anything less. Those 3 teams can be good though. They'd easily be top 2 teams in the East.

    6) Last season's fairytale stories Portland and Toronto have a good chance to have down years. I wouldn't take any future bets on these teams except if you're a win total guy in which case I'd say under on both.

    7) The Knicks and Lakers should have bounceback seasons (although it could not be enough to make the playoffs for LA) and the Nets should stay about the same as they've been the last 2 years. Good but not great. Could be enough to make a run in the East though who knows.

The bottom line is I don't see any reason to bet an NBA championship future today. The West is just too complicated this year and being by far the better conference you need to crack who wins the West to crack who wins it all IMO. Not to mention a lot could depend on the playoff matchups which we won't know till April, and the injuries.

Only value today is in the East where I think the books are wrong to peg it as a 2-horse Bulls/Cavs race. Those 2 teams are not that good and some of the teams behind them are better than people think.

Lol those teams are not the favorites it is OKC, Bulls, and Pelicans. Rockets have nobody except Ariza, Harden and Howard to fill out the roster and Cavs can't guard anyone. Spurs probably too old and Patty Mills hurt.

Basketball is where betting on chalk, heavy favorites will win their championship.
Betting on heavy underdogs for Basketball is very square.
If you want to bet on moderate to heavy underdogs, you bet on Baseball teams or Hockey teams to win their championships.

    East : Cavs or Bulls
    West : OKC, Spurs, Clippers

    field : 3%

Teams you like but have no chance: Rockets, Warriors, Pacers, Wizards, Blazers, Mavs, Lakers

Team I might throw a bone on at huge odds : Boston

okc only got telfair and morrow. morrow is a very good shooter and will give them another option on offense but i dont i see enough to turn them from pretenders to contenders.
