Spurrier: Playing East Carolina equal to a Big 10 team
South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier is never one to mince words. On Sunday during the Gamecocks media day, he defending playing East Carolina rather than a "power five" conference team.
"Playing East Carolina is maybe a little bit better than playing one of those bottom-tier Big Ten teams," Spurrier said.
South Carolina plays host to the Pirates on Sept. 6.
Spurrier also continued to advocate paying college football players and commented he advocates giving the parents of 75 players $200 per game for travel expenses to road games.
You can say the same about any of several other non "Power 5" teams. Certainly Cincinnati fits that description as does UCF, who is a very small dog to Penn State. Marshall is also up there. Northern Illinois has defeated their share of Big 10 and 12 teams. Certainly Boise State fits, as well as others.
