Happy birthday to the undisputed homerun king...

    Barry Bonds turns 50 today.

The greatest hitter I've ever witnessed.

Truly though, watching him break 70 will be etched in my memory forever. I still remember exactly where I was and it was an exciting couple of weeks. Count me in as one who thinks Barry deserves to be in the Hall.

    Check out this sick stat:

Mike Trout leads the major leagues with a 1.005 OPS this season.

Barry Bonds in his last season, at the age of 42, had a 1.045 OPS.

    That is insane.

Being a Dodger fan gave me a good chance to see bonds in person all the time. Guy was unreal in his prime. Seen him slam countless balls almost all the way out of Dodger stadium. Shame he came up when he did and had to cheat to beat the real cheaters.

Still an amazing player....Everyone else was juicing and tons of players still are yet no one comes close to him at the plate

I'll mostly remember how funny it was watching most pitchers so deathly afraid to pitch him anything close......It was like an automatic walk or he would crush it if they gave him anything close in those prime years

My Fav is the 1.421 OPS (Helps when you are intentionally walked 120 Times!!) in 2004.

Yep, juice or not he was always an amazing hitter. Over 500 stolen bases in his career as well, along with 8 Gold Glove Awards. Fck the roids, he was hitting homers off of guys who were juicing too.

Just looking at his stats, I was surprised he only hit over 50 homers once.

But he never got pitched to after the 73 dinger year.

guy was a HOF player before the roids really started.

a huge % of guys juiced in his latter years, but no one really touched his level of play while he was in SF

I'm glad he juiced, just to have been able to witness that kind of dominance in baseball at the highest level sustained for multiple years once in my life.

wasn't like the pitchers he was facing weren't juicing and taking speed

The roids prolly hurt his career as much as they carried him into the Hall. (NOT)

Think about it.....his joints went to shit. I know his knees were shot, but I'm gonna guess he pains all over the place as his juicing went on. Then came all the occasional days off the field and along with that lost possible numbers. Without the juice, and the ego, and the fact that he's an asshole in general, he could have been the greatest player ever. I'm talking all around. And been in the Hall. Not too mention what he's going through now, after baseball, mentally and physically. Just guessing, Ditka prolly looks like a track star when he walks compared to Barry today.

Good points, it is sad that he went to juicing because he was already one of the best and would easily have made the Hall. He was an asshole and with that ego it's not surprising he couldn't settle for the great career he had and wanted more. Hard to feel bad for him because of the person he is.

I remember reading that he only swung and missed like 4 times out of every 100 or something insane - that impressed me more than anything else - to have that kind of hand/eye coordination. I can't find it in the 2 second google search I did - but would love to know what real stat was. I am not a fan of his per se but that stat made me respect him more
