Continuation rule in the NBA. I think the referees do a good job of calling continuation consistantly but the way the rule is written is halarious.

" fouled in the act of shooting" should be changed to " get fouled anywhere on court followed by taking 2-3 steps and shoot ball"

I dont know how many times ive seen a player fouled with ball at waist with two feet on ground take 2 dribbles towards basket and put floater up and get continuation.

While there are a few instances where this rule is stupid, generally speaking delay of game penalties do occur because the defensive team is exhausted and/or under pressure and make a mistake. It makes a lot of sense to penalize them, otherwise it'd be smarter to throw the puck over the boards under pressure than it would be to ice it.

I used to agree but then I realized if the coaching staff wasn't retarded and knew the rules (doing their job properly) this would never happen. I do think it's funny this rule only exists as a big "fukk you" from the officials to coaches.

Well, most technical fouls occur away from players (usually because referees have their panties in a bunch) so why would that be the equivalent of contact with a player?

I always had issues with these rules:

1. Ejecting a pitcher for an unintentional HBP following the opposing team's HBP
2. The number of time outs in basketball
3. Goalie interference penalties in hockey when the goalie is out of his crease
4. Roughing the kicker penalties in football, considering how the kicker leaves his leg out there so long and flops

Illegal contact is any contact after 5 yards.....some of the calls are basically nothing involving players that aren't even near where the ball is thrown...... automatic first downs on like 3rd and 20 for something that had no effect on the play is harsh

Remember the "no skate in the crease" rule in the NHL in the late 90's? That had to be the dumbest rule in sports ever. If even a fraction of any opposing players skate was in contact with the goalie crease when the puck crossed the line, it was disallowed. Half the goals scored had to be reviewed upstairs, and goals were being disallowed left and right. Only lasted one season before they realized how stupid it was and got rid of it. Would of been nice to be a goalie that season though.
