When watching your favorite baseball team play, there's nothing more frustrating than being up a few runs in the late innings only to have the relievers come in and blow the game. Many Major League clubs seem to focus more on starting pitching and offense production moreso than their bullpen arms. Yes, starting pitching and scoring runs is important, but that doesn't mean much when you can't finish a game off and get outs in the latter part of games.
The Royals currently lead Major League Baseball in relievers ERA, runs, earned runs, hits allowed, 2nd in walks allowed, 4th in batting average against, 5th in WHIP, all while pitching the least amount of innings, possibly an indication that their success will not dwindle as the season progresses due to tired arms. Their closer, Greg Holland, has a 1.96 ERA and is 13/15 in save opportunities, all while striking out 35 batters in 23 innings while sporting a tidy .195 batting average against. All this begs the question, Do the Royals have the best bullpen in the bigs?
