getting twice as much as he's worth

every recent contract has been insane

Strange decision considering he was under contract for two more years. Why overpay now?

gotta look at all the other Shortstops in baseball

    they all suck right now

Guy was near the top for WAR and OPS last year for shortstops.

he'd be a below average corner infielder or outfielder for sure though!!!

it's a down period for SSs for sure, but a guy whose OPS and WAR are as low as Andrus's...

    he doesn't deserve 15 million a year.

    OPS+ by season: 82, 72, 89, 91

    lol

    I would've offered 4 years, 32 million.

If the agent says no, I still have him for two more seasons.

He's what I call a second tier SS, first tier would be a healthy Tulo, the next tier are the Jimmy Rollins and the Starlin Castro's of the world. He's in there.
He's better than a Asdrubal Cabrera of the Indians, not quite as good as Jose Reyes.
Unlike Reyes who seems to be on the DL twice a year, Andrus has played virtually every game of his 4 year career. Rookie of the Year runner up in '09, two time all star already, 285 hitter, nice OBA guy, around .350, with speed to burn. Will steal 30 bases a year, that's a given. No home run pop, but name me (besides Tulo) that does.
Steady shortstop, good, not great range according to fangraphs.com

Overpaid at 15 mil per year, but the SS pool is thin, and manager Washington says he is working hard on discipline at the plate, (did he .414 this spring) is a work out beast I hear, and a good clubhouse guy.

Yes Brock, he is good, not 15 mil per year good.
4 years at 12 mil per would have been more than generous.

3.7 WAR, almost 4 games better than replacement.
Give me a minute, let's see how that ranks against his peers.

Tied for second with Castro last year, only better WAR rating was Aybar, best in the majors for SS's at 4.0

I like Aybar a lot by the way, did not realize he was tops.

I would hire 3 mexicans to do the laundry and scrub the toilets if I was you. You can afford them with that salary.

They did this to send a message to Ian Kinsler to move to 1B or OF so Profar can come up, and to give the team options for Giancarlo Stanton
