2012-13 Heats are just as good as Jordan's 96-98 Champion team Bulls

The Heats probably won't ever even get 70 wins but I haven't seen a team this dominant since the Jordan days in the mid 90's.

    Comparing Jordan's 96-97 teams.

MJ/Pippen vs just LBJ/Wade is a no brainer, Jordan and Pippen would beat them 7 out of 10.

Aside from Jordan and Pippen, the Bulls has a bunch of role players that were just very good a doing one thing. Steve Kerr was phenomenal 3 point specialist at PG, Dennis Rodman was great defender and rebounder, while Toni Kukoc and Ron Harper were consistent contributors as backup starters or coming off the bench.

Chris Bosh is easily a better overall player then the rest of the Bulls beside MJ/Pippen. I also think the Heats bench players like Mike Miller, Ray Allen, Birdman Anderson, Shane Battier, Norris Cole is better overall group than the Bulls.

I think both Wade and LBJ are better than Pippen, at least will have better careers and probably stats.

would be too difficult to dissect given different rules, players, and teams
one thing that stands out are the shooters on miamis bench
they have quite the collection of 3pt shooters at their disposal

Rodman is the greatest rebounder in NBA history and you say Bosh is better than everyone but MJ and Scottie?

Unreal you must not have watched any of the games back then... Rodman was an animal... a freak

He avg'd 16+ rebounds a game in his first two seasons with the Bulls

If you had to bet your life on Jordan's Bulls winning or Lebron's Heat winning, who would you bet on?

If you say Lebron, you would be dead.

The Heat area really good team but there is no way in hell I would take them over Jordan's 70 win team. Jordan is 6-0 in the Finals. Lebron is 1-1.

The Bulls would have the best player and the best coach. Advantage Bulls. I would also take Jordan/Pippen/Rodman over Lebron, Wade, and Bosh.

I think a big part of the reason we see all these threads about how great Lebron and how is the best ever is because most people on this site are under the age of 25 and don't know any better.

Also, I feel like the level of play in the NBA is really watered down compared to what it used to be. Maybe the athletes are bigger and stronger, but there are also more teams. Sure, Kobe and Lebron would be great in any era but the overall quality isn't what it used to be.

Some of the all-time greats would be great in any generation. I mean, you're really going to take Leborn and Spolestra over Jackson and Jordan?

    Bosh over Rodman?

Get out of here with that.

Yep, I agree with everything you said. League was much more competitive in the Jordan era. Just rediculous to think this Heat team would be better that the Jordans teams, especially when they had Rodman. He would make Bosh cry if they were to face in there primes, wouldnt even be close.

Every era had their team or teams but one thing is certain! 80's Lakers/Celts, 90's Bulls/Rockets, 2000's Lakers, Spurs, Heat would all beat the 60's Celts and there 11 rings!

All of those guys you just named off goes back to everything I said about the level of play in the league now.

Guys grow up dunking and shooting three point shots. The mid-range jumper and a lot of other fundamentals have been lost over the past decade.

There is a reason we struggled in international play for a few years. Hell, we got our asses handed to us in the Olympics 8 years ago. We were bigger and stronger but still lost.

The Heat have a really good team no doubt but some of these comparisons are ridiculous. They have won one championship. They need to win about 3-4 to even get into the discussion.

I watch shit teams every night in the NBA like Orlando and Charlotte. What is that crap?

Actually my thinking changed once the 25 winning streak began, and that I'm watching a redux of the 96-98 Bulls. I know, I watched alot of the Bulls in mid 90's, this 2013 Heats team is easily one of the best team ever assembled on the basketball court.

Everyone knows what MJ/Pippen can do but we can't just keep discrediting how great Lebron is. After finally winning his ring, this guy is playing better than ever with that monkey of his back. I'm just surprised how quick everyone is in assuming Rodman is going to shut down Bosh, nobody knows that for sure? The Bulls in any of their Six Championships never had to dealt with a team that had Dewayne Wade or James scoring abilities. The Bulls also never faced a teamed with this kind bench featuring 4 very good 3 point shooters in Ray Allen, Mike Miller, Shane Battier, and Norris Cole.

The 1998 Pacers gave the Bulls all they can a handle in the Eastern Conference finals, and they had zero players at the skill level of Wade or James. That Pacers team was not very athletic, they relied on a lot of jump shots and Rik Smith posting up the Bulls undersize center. You got to be a serious Lebron hater, if you don't think this Heats team is not 10x better than that Pacers team that pushed the Bulls to a game 7.

I never was hardcore into the NBA during the Jordan era, but have a decent idea. Maybe someone whose watched both him and LeBron and is NOT biased can answer this....

Was Jordan really a better player than LeBron, speaking only on 'athleticism.' Was Jordan able to defend every position as well as LeBron can? Was he able to do these chase down blocks from end-to-end like LeBron does, and out-run literally anyone? What about LeBron's ability to beat you off the dribble and drive lanes? Could Jordan do that better?

I do know the jump-shot category def. goes to Jordan, but based on just athleticism, is it safe to say LeBron is the better complete player?

I've raved about lebrons sheer size and strength. Built like Malone and moves like Pippen. I've argued that no one can truly guard lebron because anyone big enough isn't fast enough. And whoever is fast enough isn't big enough but of everyone I can think of Pippen may be the ultimate defensive matchup against lebron.

This is not about comparing MJ to Lebron folks, we got hundreds of thread debating the same thing for years here already. Plus, I don't think anyone will ever surpass or have the impact MJ had on the league. But when comparing the 2013 Heats as a team, they're just as talented as the 96-98 Bulls and is more than capable of beating them. I never thought that was possible, but seeing how they won during their 25 game streaks changed my thinking.

Here is a quick synopsis of Michael jordon and how good and athletic he was. Jordan was an all nba defender, so not only did he routinely drop 30+ points, his defense would limit the opposing two guard to 15 points or less. So that was a twenty point deficit before either team scored a single point. Jordan would demoralize his man on both ends of the court. So basically the bulls were playing 5 on 4. Lebron overwhelms his defenders but very seldom is one guy assigned to lebron, and lebron just doesn't have the mentality to score on each and every possession the last five minutes of a game as did Jordan which set him apart from any player who has ever played the game.

You really need to watch highlights of Jordan in his prime if you ask a question like that.

Jordan would blow by James off the drive. He had a lightning quick first step.

Well u could def. say Jordan has the quicker first step...but LeBron can go to the basket just as strong, if not stronger (he's got more size) than Jordan. And he can finish just like him, has the elevation, and quickness to finish over multiple defenders.

And to say he'd 'blow past LeBron' is a bit overboard. We've seen James able to guard many quick players in the league today, and u wouldn't think its possible given his size, but he CAN keep up with the quicker/smaller players and defend them well.

depends on the ref's. breathe on Jordan it's a foul. while he could rape you and no call on him. got to keep the star on the court. don't watch nba anymore but if it was like it was in the 90's (letting the chosen few get away with anything) I think the ref's heads would explode trying to figure out which side they would be on.

lol jordan got hacked all the time what are you even talking about .. same with lebron .. good defenders know how to play defense without smacking the shiit out of their opponent .. lebron knows how to play defense .. kobe, jordan .. all great defenders know how to avoid getting foul calls on them .. u probably never watched jordan play defense for an entire game have you

it was hard to watch a whole bulls game due to the obvious biasedness of the referee's. try rewatching a game from an unbiased perspective again and try not throw up. Jordan did whatever he wanted and got no calls, that's why his defense was so great. if they treated him like any other player he'd be on the bench in the first half. but people don't pay money to see him sit on the bench.
