    Is It Possible...

Hear me out on this one - it might sound a little strange. I'm trying to find a way to give players "points" for making a sports bet, without putting any money down.

    In example,

    1/3 Odds : Bet 300 to win 100
    3/1 Odds : Bet 100 to win 300

I want to remove Bet from the equation. Got a feeling I've worked it out correctly for the easy odds with a "1" in the fraction...

    example :

    1/3 Odds : win 100 points
    3/1 Odds : win 300 points

Basically just set losses to 0^

But I'm stuck when it comes to numbers like 7/2, 9/5, and 3/8 etc. I know I could come right out and give away 700/200 points, 900/500 points, and 300/800 points BUT that would unbalance things. So how do I get it down to lowest terms?

Sorry guys not the greatest when it comes to math here.

Im just trying to keep it standardized. If in example you had 7/3 odds and gave 700 points / 300 points respectively then you would have to give 900/300 for a 3/1. Just wondering how to convert the 7/3 into the lowest terms like that 3/1

Okay okay, so 7/3 would be 233/100

    BUT -

    What about 3/8?

Would you just do reverse and divide the 8 by the 3 for 266/100 ?

I bet there's some kids in grade 3 that could figure it out but I can't Lmfao

    You cannot be serious...........

If we divided the 7/3 in the first example, why would we flip-flop the order now?

These magical things called decimals allow us to deal with the issue.

    3 divided by 8 is .375.

So .375/1 or 37.5/100 as you like to put it.

Lol i am semi - serious, but I don't know how to put this in math terms or even english hmmmm.

In theory if players were to get "points" without making bets then it'd have to be standard across the boards. Id want 100 to be the lowest number in the fraction....

consider that 1/3 for 100 points and 3/1 for 300 points.

in the example of 3/8 and 8/3 its 800 points / 300 points but thats too high.

    37.5/100 is too low though...

I want to figure it out so at the very least a player could get 100 points for their pick

So if we change the 37.5 to 100 then what does the 100 on the other side of the fraction become?

jesus. Im sure i've lost everyone at this point haha

Lol no it's my real name sir.

I think i've figured it out but im not sure. the thing throwing me off is players will not be betting anything on these odds. they just pick the one or the other and get points.

    but lets see 3/8 = 37.5/100

    37.5 x "x" = 100

    x= 2.66

Hrmm the numbers i am getting are 266/100... 266 everytime you pick the dog and 100 every time you pick the favorite?

im not sure what youre trying to figure out

if you play 266 everytime you play a dawg youre gonna win a lot more than 266

try to tell me what youre trying to do...dont use numbers...youre shitty at using numbers for your example lol

    37.5/100=100/x
    37.5x=10000
    x=10000/37.5=266.6666666666666666666666666666666 6666

Alright, to better explain what I'm trying to do...

I'm trying to figure out a way to give players "points" instead of them having to put down any bet on the outcome. So all that matters is the outcome, and if they picked the correct outcome they get "points."

8Arlvd5 thanks for confirming that we got the same answer with the 3/8 and 8/3 Odds. Now I understand how the Moneyline side of things would work.

BUT, I am still confused with how I could work the Puckline. (Or maybe it just simply would work the same?)

    Example:

    Dallas -1 and 1/2 +255
    Anaheim +1 and 1/2 -305

After removing the Vig from the +255 and -305 (i just plugged them into a calculator online) It changes to:

    Dallas -1 and 1/2 +267.38
    Anaheim +1 and 1/2 -267.38

Then i converted the +267.38 and -267.38 to fractional odds (another online calculator) and got:

    Dallas -1 and 1/2 267/100
    Anaheim +1 and 1/2 37/100

But now i dont know what the hell to do. How do i give people points for this? Do I turn them into percentages and multiply by 100 or some other witchcraft?

YOU ARE MAKING THIS SO COMPLICATED

JUST HAVE GIVE THEM UNLIMITED "POINTS"

AND ALLOW PEOPLE TO WAGER THEM

    PROBLEM SOLVED

But then there has to be a points left over column and i dont want to have that. Because its all bout total scores and it's cleaner to go without that type a thing. cant allllways cut corners sir

Im just trying to simplify things is all ,

There does not have to be a points leftover column, look at any SBR contest.

You are just +/- how many ever units.

methinks eric allen is an idiot

he doesnt want people to put down bets but he wants to give them points for choosing the proper side of a game
