    Deadspin now moving the story in ND's favor

    It looks like this was a scam to get athletes....

    "One source close to Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the man suspected of being behind the hoax, says he created Lennay Kekua as far back as 2008 and Te'o "wasn't the first person to have an online 'relationship' with her." So it's entirely possible that Tuiasosopo, from a big Hawaii football family, found marks in other local football products—like Reagan Maui'a. But his story of meeting "Kekua" would mean there was an actual, physical woman involved at one point. Every answer leads to twice as many questions."

    yeah, but Teo and Ronaiah were friends, if you check twitter, Teo tweeted a few times at Ronaiah's account @Iworship which follows ONLY Teo and "Kekua" - now these other samoans / polynesians / hawaiians are coming in to save him ??     It's still early out here on the west coast so maybe I've missed something that broke overnight. But, I'd still like to know how Manti was "duped" since we were told that Manti MET (as in MET IN PERSON) Lennay in Palo Alto after a game against Stanford.

    Also, his pops.....the controlling and big headed "Brian".......said Lennay went to hawaii a few times to spend time with Manti. How could pops be "duped" as well? Are we to believe that during the fake girlfriends fake visit to Hawaii that she never met a single friend or family member of Manti's? Seriously?

    No doubt about this. Te'o lied.

    I just don't believe he was a part of it yet.

    Here's where I'm at. My company worked for Jack Swarbrick's law firm before he took the ND AD's job. On 2 different issues, I had to deal with him. He is gracious, he's a good guy. Swarbrick is also a very talented guy, he's smart, he understands the politics of issues, and he is honest.

    I don't think he would risk his entire professional career on Manti Te'o unless he was 10000% convinced the kid was duped. Swarbrick stood in front of every media outlet last night and pushed all-in on the kid.

    I just don't see Swarbrick doing that unless he believes in his heart that Te'o was telling them the truth.

    I get it Sammy D.......I do. But, let's be honest...........Manti obviously has the ability to sell himself as a very righteous/virtuous/genuine person...........even to a fella as intelligent as Jack Swarbrick.

    This certainly isn't over............time will tell.

    I'm guessing this ends up with Ronaiah Tuiasosopo taking the fall, but having a much larger bank account.

    Never underestimate the power of hero worship when it comes to athletes Sammy -- even among the powerful. Swarbrick could very well have a blind spot for this kid.

    Te'o is a second-round level linebacker who is up on the charts because of his leadership and character.

    Ray Lewis is overrated because of the intangibles -- always has been -- but Te'o is no Ray Lewis from a physical standpoint. Not even close. And that's coming from someone who's never believed Lewis was that good of a linebacker in the first place.
