President Obama to Back Assault Rifle Ban

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama supports U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein's effort to craft legislation to reinstate an assault-weapons ban and would also back any law to close a loophole in gun-show sales, the White House said on Tuesday.
White House spokesman Jay Carney offered some of the first specifics on how Obama intends to make good on his promise to address gun violence in the aftermath of a shooting rampage at a Connecticut elementary school that killed 26 people, including 20 children.
"It's clear that as a nation we haven't done enough to address the scourge of gun violence," Carney told reporters. He reiterated that Obama "wants to move in the coming weeks."

great more regulation that'll fix the problem. How about we look at ourselves and take resposibilty for our actions?

If someone wants to slaugther a large amount of people no regulation or government force can stop them. Use your penetrating heads.

Wont change a thing. The next asshole who wants to kill a group of people before putting himself down will just use another weapon. Its not the weapon its the person and the intent.

Its the same as the sugar drink ban in NYC, cant have a 32 oz but you can have two 16 ounces.....ban a psycho from carrying a 19-30 round clip and he can just buy 3 10 round clips and switch/reload in 5 seconds or less. Same outcome.

They should not ban anything. In fact they should made machine guns available to the general public to defend their properties.

Referring to Mayor Bloomberg's 'big sugar drink' ban in NYC where restaurants cant sell the big fatty/diabetes makers anymore.

You can't legally buy a 32oz drink but all you have to do is ask for 2 sixteen oz drinks - same outcome

They thought they's solve the drug dealer problem by making it more of a penalty to catch you selling drugs with the $$ in your possession...what happens? dealer just has someone hold the money and another hold the product. Drugs still get sold.

If you are intent on doing harm, you will get it done...end of story...no piece of paper signed by any politician will stop this. We need to stop punishing society as a whole for the actions of a few and thinking this will solve everything.

What do you consider an assault weapon? The weapon used in Sandy Hook takes one pull of the trigger for one round fired...it wasn't a spraying if bullets. Same goes for the stronger more accurate weapons used by millions every week to hunt or target practice.

100% guarantee this doesn't pass. There will be no new restrictions placed on Americans rights to bear arms. None.

The NRA is simply too powerful. No way that incompetent idiot in the White House is taking away any of my freedoms.

I can tell you on a new thread with a strong argument why assault weapon ban won't work.
    It's not the main problem.

I doubt it happens. It's not his mandate. A lot of other shit to worry about. They are just fluffing this, to get the media and mental midgets to talk about this for as long as possobile.

Gun ban no gun ban here is a stat, an American is 20 times more likely to die from a gun than any other person in any other developed nation.

Also the strict gun laws in Israel seem to be a good thing, I realize the huge difference between countries and circumstance but it is working in Israel

All existing weapons will be grandfathered in
Likely that large capacity magazines (above 10) will be included in the bill

Bought two new Rock River AR-15s today. Not even going to add these to my collection, just gonna keep em in the box and make a quick buck.

Whether or not the laws are conformed, guns appreciate at a lot higher rate than you'll get in any bank.

It's impossible if you try and ask people to give up their guns. It literally doesn't work. States wont enforce it. Current guns have to be grandfathered. Which is a pay day for the gun business, if that is ever announced, everyone with a few dollars will purchase guns and ammo.

I have a 30 rd magazine for my Beretta M9. No way anyone touches it.

Just picked up a Sig M-400 last night.

The line at the gun counter at Bass Pro Shops was about 20 people deep for 3 hours. Guy told me that can't keep up with all the people wanting to buy.
