I'm guessing Wei Yin Chen on 3 days rest

would they really trust Joe Saunders on an elimination game?

Not Chen. It's between Steve Johnson, a 25 y/o rookie with 4 starts under his belt, and Joe Saunders.

hamilton and washington much rather spend next month smoking crack than making another pointless run to a ws asswhipping...might as well go for the daily double and fade stl as well, cards dont have what it takes to win a series and they kinda owe atl a solid anyway so they gonna go ahead and roll with loshe and start looking to next yr... balty and bravos end the defending league champs runs early this yr...

    two asians starting this game?

Darvish really impressed me with his control returning the last few months. I think maybe he just had to learn the US strike zone?

    Really? Cooked? Get a clue.

He's 5-1 with a ERA hovering around 2 since around the All-Star Break

After browsing this forum for a while I had to register just to reply to this. What on earth are you talking about.

Over his last 7 starts, Darvish has an ERA under 2 and 69 strikes to 10 walks. Hes been one of the best pitchers in the league over the 6+ weeks hes had his control working. Even for the season, hes 5th in strikeouts, 2nd in strikeouts/9, and a 3.9 ERA 1.28 WHIP are not actually bad, particularly pitching with Arlington as his home park.

As for playoff pressure, the guy has played in many playoffs as the ace of a Japan staff (the whole league..), including winning the clinching game of a title. He also saved the last two games of the last WCS vs USA/Korea. No its not having won a world series game 7, but he knows pressure.

Meanwhile, Baltimore might be throwing out Joe Saunders, he of career numbers worse than Darvish and an ERA near 6 pitching in Arlington, which he did a lot while an Angel. Or an actual rookie with no playoff experience.

    Not to mention this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAjWOWoH6gg

LOL at comparing Japan playoffs to MLB playoffs.

I know Darvish has pitched well as of late but we saw how he pitched when he was jacked up with emotion his first ever start and that is something you can not forget to factor in. now especially with the way the rangers are choking, he has all the weight in the world on him plus the added pressure of the playoffs. he is going to feel like he has to make the perfect pitch every time and that doesnt turn out well for guys with command issues

if Baltimore throws Joe Saunders than i will be backing the Rangers.

that is an absolutely terrible decision. just throwing your season away before the game even starts.

rangers would probably win that game 15-10. i dont think you can choke against Saunders

I'd like to consider the O's a "team of destiny" here, but in Arlington with either a rookie or Joe Saunders the blimp on the bump? No thanks.

Rangers will probably get a second wind here, but I don't know if they can make it all the way to the series.

With that being said, no one in the AL field should scare them.

First of all, I specifically said it isn't the same as game 7 of the world series.. why didn't you bold that too?

However, LOL'ing it off is just silly. Its the 2nd largest professional baseball league, with packed stadium of very loud fans in the playoffs. He was raised to think it was incredibly important, he was the phenom of the league, very young, the most popular player and a major celebrity in Japan. To think it doesn't register on the pressure scale merely because there is a higher league being played across the world is nonsense. And while all that supposedly isn't enough to suggest he can handle some pressure, one bad inning in his first MLB start vs the last place Mariners is enough to say he can't. Sure.

Meanwhile you knew he had been one of the best pitchers in the league the past 6 weeks but were laughing on the floor at how done the Rangers were done vs Mighty Joe Saunders. If so, laughing on the floor indeed.

However in this exact situation you have to give the home team the edge.

Rangers take this game with Darvish. O's bats have cooled off.

said that Joe Saunders will be the starting pitcher.
