He won't mind if he wins.

If someone offered me that bet for $20 cash on the spot I'd do it, the US Open is only once a year.

I like the US Open much more than the Masters because of the ones like we're watching this year. Every so often the Open is a bore and it makes all the traditions and ceremonies at Augusta look vastly superior in comparison.

Personally, I love an event where it looks like the one golfer who manages to finish under par will win the thing.

As in an event where the touring pros bitch that it's too hard. Makes me think of Goosen winning at Shinnecock, all the golfers were irate that they couldn't keep a ball on the greens, yet there he was getting up and down every hole, practically whistling while he worked.

They've got Olympic in great shape - hit it straight or you're f*cked, plus pool table greens. And we have no idea who's gonna win, but some great players at the top plus an amateur who thinks he can win. Great stuff.

And if I had to pick a winner ... Furyk. Probably because I bought into McDowell swaggering off the 18th. I think I'm rooting for McDowell though. No bets.

if i had to pick one of the leaders to win i would definitely go with mcdowell.

i just have a feeling whoever wins is 3-5 shots off the lead coming into today

Actually, the day to go with the long shots is Saturday, aka "moving day". I think the best thing to do is a pick'em btw Furyk / McDowell.

They're in pole position and have the game and experience to close the deal. That Woods is still feasibly in it only sweetens your odds.

not in this tourney. furyk and mcdowell can shoot +5 or worse today. if any of those long shots can shoot -3 or -4. i have a good chance...

+5 or worse? Is there any particular reason to think that? Furyk was E, -1, E and not a showy "shot maker", the kind who fires crazy scores every so often. It's his consistency that the announcers refer to when they keep calling him a "grinder".

even grinders feel the pressure. this is a tough course. better to get the round over with than be the final two when you have a very small lead...

Furyk absolutely came apart, I'm very surprised. Who knows when the pressure started creeping in, but he lost the tourney with that tee shot on 16 - if Roger Maltby says "I've never seen (player name) make a worse shot ever" - then you might as well tear up his ticket. He seemed to be overcompensating for his nerves - you can't play winning golf tight. And did you hear the names of the only guys who ever finished birdie-birdie to win an Open? Nicklaus, Watson, and ... missed the third name, (Gary Player?). But they were players who were like Tiger was, seemingly immune to the pressure.

I give you credit, Ghengis, and anyone else who had Simpson. Must have been a pretty price.
