by big money dog i thought you meant a dog that took a lot of play. this line went up from 5.5 to 7.5 and with the public bets being about 50/50, that just tells me that most of the $$$ was in fact on the favorite.

if the public was 70% on the favorite, and the line went from 7 to 6 (or even stood around 7) then that would be a sign to me that the larger $$ value bets were on the dog even though the volume of smaller "public" bets was on the favorite. in that scenario, my point is that just because the 70% public play won, that doesn't necessarily mean the books got crushed.

maybe books did lose money today, i dont know...i am just talking in general i see many people on this board post that books got killed on a game because the 70-80% public choice won.

Well when it's a 70-80% bet, and it happens over and over again, and you combine teases and parlays with no faves going down (other than a public play in VCU), and you combine it with the heavy volume of NCAA betting....I highly doubt it was the best day for the books.

Last time I checked, Our profit and loss today was better than last year for the first day of the Madness. Clue no. 1: Kentucky did not cover the handicap.

No such thing as a sharp just betting underdogs

Actually more and more underdogs are becoming square plays in todays world

Exactly, I don't know why Vegas doesn't inflate the lines of heavy favorites by another point or 2. Like for example, if they make OSU a 19 point favorite, that game pushes last night, but they still probably get a ton of the public on OSU because it is under 20.

some lines are tight, sample size is( shrinking
    )
pay attention to the board, certain "constants" have carried over from the regular season , .......it's not all dogs, or all fav's......just went over the games from yesterday, do your homework !!!!(ie. line history) i have reviewed just about every game in college bb this year, so I know

Lot of split action on most games.

A few faves win and books are supposed to be buried???

I will tel you this there might be a lot of broke gamblers tomorrow but I doubt any broke casinos, other than the offshore ones that were broke when today started.
problem being that we cannot get "who is betting what
from the betting consensus,...... sports insights tried to find out and the oddsmakers refused to give out that info
with good reason.....do think pregame is helpful though,

Didn't see any casinos go out of business since yesterday, but I think more dogs will bark today.

Dude...where are you checking your stats...most of the public favs that won yesterday had more than 70% action on spread and ML...and all of them had atleast 30k bets...are you checking the right website?

Books are getting buried today as well...all public favs covered today except missouri

i still don't understand what happened with the marquette and murray state lines.

i dont remember a matchup like that in the first round (with similar talent gap) with such a low line, especially the marquette game.

thespread.com and a bunch of others

Yeah I know bunch of faves covered and won but that's one day and we don't see the $$$$ numbers so who really knows the exact money the books lost or won. The %'s are good for public perception.

Maybe a lot of pseudo-sharps had a lot of money on the dogs....
