    Naturally field goals, rebounds, turnovers and free throws will have a heavy weighting in any basketball model.

    Ranking based on fixed weightings is not what a modeller does though. Having the stats in a stuctured form gives you ability to vary and skew the weightings as well as add in some other, maybe less obvious, parameters and then backtest against a few years of data.
