Here's a few clues if the economy is going to be bad, not that I'm an economic prof.

1. Low interest rates. We started this recession in the latter part of 2000. Dot Com bubble burst.

2. Going to war or getting involved in a skirmish. We have two wars going on. Double whammy.

3. Mass layoffs. Monkey see, monkey do. One company does it, they fall in line.

4. Not spending. (consumers) We fear for our jobs and save more, spend less.

Notice how the economy is picking up at the same time our troops are coming home?
Less layoffs means people don't fear for their jobs, spend more.

I've lived through a few recessions and these are the things I've noticed during that time.

When you start to see interest rates go up, we will be in good shape.

I think one of the key things causing business leaders to sit on their piles of cash and not hire is the uncertainty this administration has created. Uncertainty on taxes, health care, regulations, just to name a few. Can you think of a successful business that has not passed a budget in almost three years? There is really only two things one can conclude about Obama: either he is in over his head, or he is just plain incompetent as an executive.

i searched autotrader.com for used cars priced $5000 & less (which i consider affordable) and found over 90,000. and i havent even searched craigslist or cars.com.

45 million is 14.9% of the us population, not 20%. which isn't surprising since it's close to the "real" unemployment numbers of 11%. there were over 30 million on food stamps in dec 2008. when your predecessor loses 4 million jobs in just 1 year, it shows how dire the economic situation was. yet obama has managed to create over 2 million jobs in the past year.
