Units is typically how much people are betting per game. 1 unit normally equals a certain amount they bet. Like 1 unit = $100

A unit represents a percentage of your bankroll, typically 2-3%. If your feeling really confident about a play make it a multiple unit bet, if your on a losing streak step it back down to 1 or 2 units.

This works because as your bankroll grows, the value of 1 unit increases. Likewise it is important that the value of 1 unit decreases if your bankroll decreases.

Say you make 10 units in a weekend, whether 1 unit of your bankroll represents $1 or $1000, you're still +10 units on the weekend.

The key is you want to be able to withstand multiple game losing streaks without breaking the bank.

Most people will go bust if they lose 5 bets in a row.

Chasing your losses is the easiest way to go bust.

This is a really good explanation. However, let's say you have a bankroll of $1000, your units = 1% of your roll so currently $10.

You have a great weekend and win $500 (or 50 units). You should not change your unit size to $15.

Have a set goal. Let's say your goal is to make $1000 and then up your bankroll to $2000. You withdraw any amount over your current bankroll of $1000 until you have withdrawn $1000. Then you make enough to raise your bankroll to $2000. At this point, you increase the size of your units to $20.

Bankroll management is the only way to succeed. Never bet your whole roll, Never.

If you've just started sports betting this is normal. Try not to let this go on for more than a year though, use this time to figure out which sport your best at handicapping.

It's really hard to practice sound money management, especially if your only depositing $100 every time, because then theoretically you should only be betting around $5-$15 a game.

Eventually your going to get sick of depositing $100 every other week and you'll start to feel like a loser. Even though you may be capping at over 50% you just keep chasing loses and can't withstand multiple game losing streaks.

At this point one of two things will happen. You will continue the current cycle of depositing every week, you'll go on win streaks, maybe even turn that $100 into $500, but eventually you'll lose 1 or 2 in a row and find yourself with a $275 all in bet on the jets last Sunday night. You will become like 85% of posters on this forum, a losing sports bettor.

But if you figure out what you're good at, and practice sound money management, maybe if you're lucky, you'll wise up, make a $1000 deposit at the start of your strongest sports season and actually make some money. If there's 12 games on that day you bet 2 at the most, you stop placing bets for the sake of placing a bet, stop chasing losses, you stop posting "lock" threads because you realize only kvnts do that. Then and only then will you see your bankroll grow consistently over the course of a season.
