    Do many SBR posters keep a personal safe at home?

    To keep things like:
    * Extra cash
    * Gambling reserve
    * Personal documents
    * Gun

    Also, how tough are safes to crack?

    Thx, Robust. Been thinking about it. Wouldn't be the worst thing.

    I'm pretty clumsy, so I wouldn't want a gun lying around. But having it in rsv not a bad thing.

    I keep very valuable items/documents in a bank safety deposit box. The ones that are replaceable but I would prefer not to get stolen go into a bolted safe. I think safes are pretty worthless unless you get a top of the line one. I keep some cash as well in it but nothing substantial.

    No there's safety deposit boxes for valuable personal documents( deed to house, bond certificates, etc...), and no a social security card or birth certificate is not valuable.

    Why would you put cash in a safe thats not gaining interest like you could be earning in a roth ira.
    You can withdraw your principal at any time.
    Good luck using your gun if you have to open a safe while a burglar is in your home.

    I did have a safe in Santa Barbara but got rid of it when I moved. No safe, but safety deposit box for items. Guns are in storage at the moment except for two of em.

    @ this thread.

    YEAH MAN. I've got a safe full of diamonds and like $90,000,000 in cash.

    I leave every other weekend about 500 miles away from home.

    I do not have a guard dog.

    Safe depo Box...for all the imp stuff

    Fire safe at home...easy to break into but will melt and still save everything if the joint burns down

    you can carry it out of the house unless you are a real weak robber

    You need a drill with diamond drill bits and about one lb of C4 explosive and you can blow it wide open.

    Yes, have to lock stuff up from the young ones and there are a few possessions I want in my home, but safeguarded should my place get robbed...

    Don't be a dumbass and forget to bolt it to your floor though - learned this one the hard way.

    Appears that this thread is exposing me as an idiot.

    I didn't say that I won't use a Bank/Roth IRA. Main point was that I don't want a gun lying around...I'd surely shoot myself at some point.

    Dulas.

    One other point = I've heard bad stories about govt agents opening up safe deposit boxes.

    Unless you live in the hood or have shady characters over at your house then just get a small fire safe to keep important documents or cash in and hide it somewhere. If you are gonna put a gun in a safe then you really don't need to have a gun now do you?

    Putting the gun in the safe is stupid. Imagine a thief breaking in your house at 3:00 am. By the the time you wake up and figure out what the safe combination is in the middle of the night to get your gun and confront him you are better off confronting him with a baseball bat.

    A better solution to a gun safe is keeping the gun separate from the ammo magazine. Like keep the gun in the attic and the magazine under the pillow.

    I have a safe. Just keep document's in it. Keep all guns in a locked cellar except for a ruger lcr .357 in the dresser drawer and Remington 1100 12ga in the closet.

    I don't even know what I could possibly put in a safe. I only have like 4k to my name. No Jewelry or guns. Maybe my passports?

    No safe for me. Passports and birth certificates I just keep in a briefcase in my closet.

    3 of my handguns are hid away in the basement, 1 on the side of the bed (bought a nice bedside holster from NRAstore.com)

    No need for safe.
