    Kings Corner (July, 20th 2011... The day the Pirates began to fade...)

    Tomorrow is July 20th, 2011, just another Wednesday for most of us, but for the Pirates, it will be the beginning of the end. Their gradual fade into obscurity will start with a loss to the Reds in about 10 hours.. Most will not even be alarmed by tomorrows loss, it will be another hard fought game by the Bucco's, they will just come up a little bit short. It will be the first of many close losses that will eventually lead to their demise...

    The Pirates are not as good as they or even you think.. What you think doesn't fukkin matter, but what they think does.. (while other clubs are trying to make moves and improve, the Pirates will stand pat because they believe they are a first place team, but they aren't.) You see, the Pirates are on cloud nine right now, they have won 19 of their last 30 and are now in first place... The problem is they are only a half game up on the Brewers and have the Cardinals and Reds right behind them. I say only because they have had the luxury of playing some of baseballs worst teams the last month or so.. and at the peak of all peaks, here they are, only one half of one game ahead of the Brewers.

    Pirates last 9 completed series'

    Atsros 3-0
    Indians 0-3
    Orioles 2-1
    Red Sox 2-1
    Blue Jays 2-1
    Nationals 2-2
    Astros 2-1
    Cubs 2-1
    Astros 2-1

    as you can see, they have feasted on some bad baseball teams. 3 series' against the worst team in baseball (Astro's), 2 last place teams (Cubs and Orioles), and a team that spent the last month in a tailspin (Indians). The Nationals and Bluejays are average at best. That leaves one series against a proven playoff team (Red Sox) in the last 9...

    Take a look at whats around the corner for the Pirates after they lose to Cueto and the Reds on Wednesday...

    We were all saying what you are saying about two weeks ago....trust me I am thinking the same way you are thinking....they lose tomorrow but the rest is unknown though I would be inclined to side with you.

    The Pirates are like the geek who stays "clean"... keeps his nose to the grind stone and "gets ahead" with hard work and dedication...

    The "Geek" can only go so far in life...

    The Brewers, Cards, and Reds are the like the popular kids with good looks, athletic, and always happy... sometimes they abuse drugs and alcohol and get a little complacent... They lose track of their goals and stumble a little...

    They're about to go to rehab (trade deadline), fix their flaws and pass that geek right up...

    The strength of the pirates scheduled played is 29th in the league, only team with an easier schedule so far is the cardinals , this is stat based not opinion based..

    The current team is not good enough to keep winning but they do have some good players hurt and might pick up a bat like Beltran who is free salary wise.

    I've been trying to decide if this game is better for first 5 or game, even though the Pirates have the better bullpen I think the Cardinals still have the edge in the 2nd half because of the huge edge in the lineup and the starters probably pitching some if Maholm doesn't get rocked early.

    you know how much more risk you taking ff? damn the bullpen edge cause Carp gonna be pitching well into the 7th or your ff is fukked anyway. Once it goes 7/8 im sure Lynn can handle this lineup for a inning and Salas doesnt blow saves to guys not hitting Hrs..either way there risk cause there a lot of things pit does better than the Cards, but you trying to eliminate pens when if Carp gone before 7+ id guess your ff lost anyway. Cards tend to stay in gms when Carp pitches even if he or the pitiful defense gives up a few early.

    Why would sharps get buried by the Pirates? No one has believed in this team this season. That's not going to change now.

    Good luck finding anyone who thinks the Pirates are a top-shelf team. They're below-average and obviously they'll take a dip when they start playing tougher competition than the Astros and Cubs.
