... grew up with decimal odds (horse racing in the UK) .... prefer decimal ... refuse to send money to any book that only offers US odds ...

True but if u train ur brain through repitition with relation to odds conversion you will find that eventually that ur brain becomes quicker than the calculator Can make the difference between a healthy arb or breaking even/minus imo....

It depends what you're most used to seeing, when I go to Greece they have the decimal odds ( 2= even, 1.9= -110) for soccer games, and in the US its very rare to see these at books except for horse racing. IMO Im not used to decimal odds or fractional odds so I dont like them but Im sure people in other parts of the World like them.

    4/9 is very easy

you should be able to work it out in your head that 4 goes into 9 2 and one quarter times.

    I think thats 9/4

4/9 I guess would be 4 divided by 9 which would be .4444444 etc

which I guess would mean the odds are 1.44

I dont like american or fractional odds because there are calculations involved if the odds are under -100, unless you memorize all the key numbers

    decimal odds are the best

Seems to me if you compare all types of odds offered decimal odds win in a landslide as most popular odds in world

Fractional odds definitely have lots of The UK written all over them

No, 9/4 and 4/9 are obviously the same number in American odds.

If 4 goes into 9 two and one quarter times, the number is obviously 225 (hence 2 1/4).

    If it's 9/4, it's an underdog, so it's +225.

    If it's 4/9 it's a favorite, so it's -225.

jj is talking about fractional vs. American. We're not converting to decimals here.

    That's a pretty easy calculation.

Fractional seems easier to convert to American odds compared to decimal.

they go both ways. 4/9 and 9/4 gets the same results basically you just have to know whether it is + or -.

4/9 give the European odds of 1.44 4 divided by 9 is .444444444,add the 1.0 and you get 1.44

and 9/4 will give the money line odds of 225. 9 divided by 4 is 2.25

    Same as 20/33.

20 divided by 33 gives you .60606. Round it up and you get .61. Which equates to 1.61

33 divided by 20 is 1.65 which is the ML number -165

They all work the same way and basically proof each other out so that you knows they odds are correct in all formats. or if you can bet multiple formats and the odds are advantageous one way over another you take the best ones. So if a book is offering -165 American odds on a game but has European odds of 1.62 you would be better off taking the 1.62. Not sure if this happens anymore but it used to on occasion.

There is a well known UK/EU book that gives you better odds when you switch to decimal/fractions.
