    Miami Heat = NY Yankees?

They played this series like a collection of bitchy, overpaid athletes rather than a composed team like the Mavericks. Strange considering they reached the finals their first at-bat.

They remind me of some Yankee teams that seemed strung together with eight figure deals instead of built methodically.

I think Louie has had a few drinks tonight, but I like it.

Heat are hated on the same level as the Yankees, though they don't have as big of a fan base.

no way to compare these 2 - Yankees are the best team in MLB history and they get respect whatever people say while everyone is laughing at Miami now.

Fair enough -- I wasn't seriously comparing them as organizations but instead this year's team to previous Yankee superstar teams that lacked in chemistry.

I still don't understand why people would hate a team that hasn't done jack yet. The Lakers are still the most hated team and their comparison with the Yankees would seem more valid.

    Two major differences:

    1. Yankees actually won titles, this Miami team hasn't yet..

    2. Miami has two of the best players in the world, so they are not overpaid by any stretch...

    no not similar at all

yankees have no salary cap, so they can pile up the talent and have huge budgets

heat have a salary cap, and instead of choosing to have a good all around team they chose to get 2-3 good players and surround them with leftovers

I think heat did a very bad job of it, look at celtics, they managed to put 3 stars together and surround them with talent which led to a title, if garnet, allen and pierce were lebron, wade and bosh's age they'd be winning their 4th ring today

I think the analogy actually makes sense. While Derek has 5 rings, since A-Rod only 1. The glory of the Yankees was teams built over time, they may have acquired Ruth from the Red Sox but their teams were their players, Gehrig, DiMag, Mantle, Berra, etc. Now that they field the best team money can buy, they have not been so hot.

No they are not. That's like saying Lebron is more hated than Kobe, when in reality Kobe is the most hated person in the NBA...

The yankees are a class act. The heat are far from a class act. Could you picture the yankees having that preseason concert thing the heat had and brag that they will win 4,5,6 championships...don't think so.

The cornerstones of the current yankee dynasty (pasada, mo, jeter were all raised in house)

Like the 2009 NYY that won the WS, I'll get back to this in a moment.

Yankees built a dynasty around home grown talent like pitchers Rivera and Pettitte.
SS Jeter, OF Bernie Williams, C Posada, and so on, and so on.

Before they became 8 figure (your words) salaried superstars, they were minimum salaried rookies.
The organization had the foresight to recognize they would be future greats.

Those teams from '96-09 oozed chemistry.

Yankees last championship came two years ago, 2009, big part of that success was their pitching.

Petitte and Chamberlain (both original NYY farm system products) combined for 63 starts. Or almost 40 percent of the season.

Bigger part of that championship was the bullpen.

Rivera (home grown product) saved 44 games, pitched in 66.
Phil Hughes (home grown product) appeared in 51 games.
Phil Coke (home grown product) appeared in 72 games (Half the season)
David Robertson (home grown product) appeared in 45 games.

Ian Kennedy, was on that team. Yankee farm hand.
So was Ching Ming-Wang (amateur free agent, Yankee rookie)

There was no chemistry problem there, big part for that was Joe Torre.
When ever the front office did try to muddy the waters, Torre smothered it like a boy scout on a camp fire.

There were minimal chemistry problems from '96-'09.

Now if you want to go back 35 years and say Reggie and Thurman and the whole Bronx Zoo thing, fine, but that's
    ancient history?

Didn't Johnny Bench hate Pete Rose?
Those Reds teams also had chemistry problems.
They had three relievers that though each of them should be the every day closer.

I laugh when posters hatred for the Yankees get in the way of a lot of facts.

just shows how 1 man (dirk) can rival the games supposedly best 3.

heat are a bunch of whiners, it was good to see them cry after they lost
