first of all, the 2005 team was superior to this team, even most texas fans will tell you that

second, i have watched texas play at least 16 games the past 2.5 yrs, and colt mccoy and co have lost 6 games in that stretch

other ppl can go ahead and anoint them, i will be waiting to see if they can win AT LUBBOCK, TX and AT LAWRENCE, KS

those games will be MUCH tougher than some ppl might think

    stay tuned

Thats actually a sharp post. I was thinking the same two. Penn St would have a chance in a bowl game with the Pappa Joe factor.

Not sure if its the best Texas team ever though, a lot of ball left to play. The Texas team that beat USC 3 years ago went undefeated won their conference championship game like 70-7 and went on to beat USC on USC's home field. Not sure that was the best Texas team either. Been a few...

Keep an eye on Oklahoma State this weekend. Highly under rated team. I think Texas will win but this will be a good test for them.

They have certainly proved me wrong to this point. They still have a tough road ahead so we shall see.

The 2005 team had a shaky pass defense otherwise pretty similar. Okla St might be dangerous at home but they get blown out in Austin. Like a poster already said Kansas and Texas Tech on the road will determine if the horns suit up on Jan 8th.

that team was much more than VY as well. its just that he was so dominant that its the only thing ppl seem to remember. that 2005 overall team was incredible

only tough games 2005 had were at ohio state, who finished top 5, and the nat'l title gm where they edged out usc, who also finished top 5, they CRUSHED everyone else

this 2008 texas team will have had close gms v. oklahoma, and i am predicting 3 more close gms, at kansas, at t. tech, and the bowl gm

    mark it down gents

I borrowed this from another forum, but you get the idea.

    Florida Atl.....86th
    UTEP...........73rd
    Rice.............87th
    Arkansas.......71st
    Colorado.......70th
    ou...............49th
    Mizzou.........58th

These are the rankings of the rush offenses of the teams that UT has played. Sure, UT is ranked 2nd against the run, but against what competition? The best rushing attack they've faced is OU, at 49th.

Texas is also ranked 111th against the pass, so I don't know why people are saying OSU won't move the ball against them.

They were better when they won the Rose Bowl vs USC my friends, and it isn't even close. All they do this year is throw screen passes and occasionally take a shot down the field on a fake screen pass to a WR. Once they run into someone with a better defense they will get beaten.

Okl state will be a good test, very underrated

It is very difficult to outscore Texas

Their D us not bad either

Okl was very good and Texas owned them

Be very careful with these kind of stats! Texas is ranked 111th in pass defense because teams cant run on them and are quickly behind by large margins and dont even try. As the games get out of hand Texas plays a very sof zone or a prevent. They have 4 freshmen in the secondary but they are good and getting better every game.

oklahoma st's Defense is no joke... a scrambling QB and big WR's and nasty spread running game Texas had better watch out! Oklahoma ST is by far a bigger test than mizzou. Upset Alert

texas's d is very good, playin w/an attitude under will muschamp

oklahoma was good, but the d was suspect and special teams have been a problem for them all season, then texas gets the kickoff return,

first downs and total yds were even, the only difference in the game was texas kickoff return for td and 2 sam bradford int's

texas did not 'own' oklahoma, they beat them, but did not own them

That is true, but if you look at the rushing offenses you can see why they were able to shut down the run game. OU is the top run offense they have faced and in my opinion OU's run game isnt very good. I think OSU will be able to move the ball a bit on the ground which will open up the passing game especially to Dez Bryant who might be the best all around reciever in college football. Just my 2 cents, take it for what its worth.

reason for their Defensive improvement was the addition of the Auburn's old D co-ordinator. I still would like to see them play something like at Georgia and then LSU and see if Colt McCoy still has a 80% completion. I would also much rather watch them go against a top SEC defense in the championship. If they win, then yes, they are one of the best Texas teams.

Well the D argument can be thrown out the door

NOBODY plays D in college football anymore, it is pitiful actually.

LSU, Georgia are a little overrated as are the rest of the SEC.

I have Texas -6 over Bama on a neutral field.

exactly. ppl love to anoint the next great thing in college football, and the same ppl are unfazed yr after yr when they have egg all over their faces when the anointed team loses,

ppl NEVER learn, which is a main reason why sportsbooks are still so profitable

fwiw, i think texas will beat oklahoma state fairly handily

its the trips to lubbock and lawrence that will be a total bitch for texas to win

those teams are locked and loaded, ready for texas
