No doubt one of the class acts. Very sad day for the baseball world. It was I think a week or so after they announced he was stopping treatment.

Less than that. He announced on Friday he was stopping treatment and entering hospice care. RIP "Killer"

Killebrew was the first baseball cards I bought from a store, part of my overall investment strategy as a child along with buying older comic books and waiting to reap the profits. I loved reading about this guy, great career and a class act. RIP

Thank you Mr. Killebrew for allowing me too dream big as a kid.

Truly a class act and a hero.

FYI: He is the batter on the MLB logo.

He had esophageal cancer- just missed him play (born in 71)--rest in peace. Only heard good things about this guy. I heard that he set records on distances of his shots. Would've loved to have seen it. I need to make a trip to the baseball hall of fame

Interesting fact about Mr. Kilebrew. I recall his nickname was Killer or Hammerin' Harmon but what most don't realize is that his baptized name was actually Harmony. His mother desperately wanted a girl and when she realized she had a boy, she decided to name him Harmony to sate her desire for a daughter and to declare she was at peace, or harmony, with her little boy.

Surprisingly, she was unaware of her son's athletic prowess and made him devote countless hours to the banjo. She felt it would be appropriate considering his name and he actually became quite an accomplished guitarist and harmonica player. But baseball was his passion and although he will forever be known as Killer, those who knew him best will remember him as the sweet little boy with the pretty name.

New tribute written today with an entire interview Harmon Killebrew gave in 2007 about a lot of different baseball topics:
