Lakers had a chance to get Carmelo Anthony

The Nuggets were asking for Odom and Bynum before the Knicks trade. Melo wanted to play in a big City, so LA was definitely one of his preferred choice. So who's going to carry the Lakers, now that washed up Kobe can't do it anymore.

They would had beaten Dallas for sure with Melo, since Melo has been unstoppable when playing Dallas through the years.

    Melo plays No D

Knicks made worst trade in nba history getting him

We all saw Melo in the playoffs. They got beaten up by Boston with defense.

I respectively disagree. The Lakers desperately need a point guard. Blake was a HUGE mistake. Brown and Barnes are gone. They're loaded down with some god awful contracts and aging players. Maybe you keep Fisher as a back-up but Gasol, Artest, Odom, Walton all need to go. The problem is finding a trading partner. They can still win with this group but I think their days of being an elite team are over.

Final though. Bynum and Odom showed they're no better than the East LA wanna' be gangsters who riot and loot after championship games. The Lakers looked 'classless' today. By the way who is guarding Jason Terry? He just hit another three.

Are you insane their defense would of just been worse, now if they traded Bynum for Chandler, Felton, Galinari, and Mozgov they would of beat Dallas.

    lol, Melo got swept.

Let's not pretend getting Carmelo Anthony is a surefire way to get to where you want to go in the playoffs.

What about Ty Lawson, Nene and JR Smith? For Gasol, Odum, Artest and Bynum?

You seriously need to re-read what you posted. The Lakers would have beat Dallas wth Mello minus Odom and Bynum??? You were just kidding right?

Definitely not that would put Derrick Caracter in the starting lineup and guarding Dirk

Lakers with Melo would have been pretty interesting. But whatever the Lakers looked old and tired today.

no, why would they take a 1 dimension player on board. LA is live and die with triangular system, even after Jackson is gone, its required players with excellent all around skills pass/defense/versatility/decent shooter etc, no they don't need a point guard because every team members are need to be a good passer

New york is the right fit for Carmelo with their upper tempo style & coaching system. This guy can't just come in and fit in any team, it doesn't work like that.

Melo Isn't a good fit for the Lakers. His defense is shaky! It will be interesting to see what the Lakers do in the off season.

Carmelo doesn't play defense so what good was going to do for Lakers? He also plays the same position as Kobe.

Anthony has only gotten past the first round of the playoffs once. Have to play D in the playoffs.

This is a pretty funny thread.

For all the problems they had in the playoffs this year, for anyone to argue that taking away Odom and Bynum and adding Carmelo would somehow make them better is asinine. The Lakers didn't need Carmelo. Their strength the past few seasons has been their inside game, because teams have trouble matching up with Gasol and Bynum (and Odom is tough too, when he's in there). You would take that away and add another shooting guard/small forward who's going to demand a lot of shots? Hell, they might've lost to the Hornets.
