He gets an additional 17 1/2 million next year for completing 55 games this year, but in a tie game like this he finished the 9th and avoided the loss sending it to extra innings but now he wont complete the game. I mean what a weird contract that is, it oughta be complete the 9th inning or something for a closer, they're basically payin him 17 1/2 million to give up a run in tie games and complete the game
You could also argue they can just use a different pitcher since the Mets suck anyway and K-Rods razorsharp days are behind him and prevent him from completing the 55 and save 17 1/2 mil, just a strange contract imo but maybe this is standard stuff in MLB
