i'd say its the ability to contain your urge from going all in on bets, and some days not even betting at all

yea but if you dont have a huge bankroll, does that mean your not successful cause you only bet 50 bucks and not 50k

not managing and adhering to a bankroll is the downfall of many. if you can do that, you're already ahead.

successful = being happy with the results

some people can lose $1000 and consider it successful. some people can win $10,000 and consider it horrible. its all on individual goals

    Patience/discipline.

Without a doubt by FAR the most important thing. The hardest part of gambling.

Please stop with "discipline" and "money manangement."

All that means is that you will lose your money slower than others.

To win at this game long term, you have to consistently beat the closing number.

Bear ill be honest with you. the ONLY ONLY way to be a successful gambler is to be the book. find 5 friends that want to get down and take their action. theyll lose and youll win. at best one will get hot for a week and youll be right around even but thats highly unlikely. then as your investment gains value start taking on a couple more clients. as they loss get a couple more. repeat this process for a few years and before you know it youll be quiting your day job and going on vacation every other month. once you get over 20 people youll never have to worry about one guy taking you out. i can promise you and everyone else that comes to this site that if you follow this simple guideline youll be making a nice steady profit from sports in no time.

thats how you become successful in this game

I make 90% of my money betting on boxing and mma and the biggest reason for my success in those 2 sports is my amatuer boxing experience. My boxing experience helps me alot when i'm betting on the outcomes of fights because I know boxing technique very well. I suck at other sports like basketball and nfl .

being on the right side consistently is number 1. if you are picking the wrong side, all the money managment in the world does you nothing.

in all reality, a guy who wins money for an entire season is successful IMO. if he does it every year, then hes great.
