Thanks Over the years, I have tried to isolate less than obvious factors that I feel are the most important in handicapping a total. For example, way before computers and the internet, I charted umpires for years and factored their records into my handicapping. Now everyone has this info, so it's less important since, to some degree, it's baked into the posted total. Believe it or not I NEVER look at the starting pitcher's ERA, since I feel that's already baked into the total also. I do look at the relief pitchers' ERA and I try, though not always successful, to predict what reliever will be used. Weather, ballpark and right/left match ups are also factored in.
