So he tried to slash taxes and at the same time reduce the deficit? Did he propose a lot of spending cuts to do this? Seriously, were you living in the same country as me during the years 2000-2008? Things done under Bush:

1) Two unfunded wars that CBO estimates will cost the taxpayers by 2017, 2.4 trillion dollars.

2) 2001 and 2003 tax cuts, which are estimated to have cost as of right around now 2.8 trillion dollars.

3) The largest entitlement program creation in over 40 years, Medicare Part D, total estimated cost from 2009 to 2018, 727.3 billion.

If Bush was so concerned about the deficit and debt, why did he inherit a budget surplus and proceed to cut taxes twice, push for two wars(which isn't the problem, the problem is they were unfunded) and push for the largest expansion of an entitlement program in over 40 years. Bush was not a fiscal conservative. End of Story.

Dick Cheney said it himself, "Reagan proved budget deficits don't matter." That is to say unless you're a Republican looking to run against an incumbent President.
