    Return of the XFL?

NFL showing a little decline - Throw in the current political climate and the timing could be just right for a revival! McMahon is the master at playing that up. XFL was way ahead of its time back in 2001 - helmet cams, putting mics on players, cams on field "during" play, overhead cam with the "Madden" view (that was done in the first XFL game ever on NBC for most of the first half - NFL just started using it a majority of the time in the past few weeks). They averaged over 25,000 per game in attendance - there is definitely a market for spring ball. Would love to see it!

Vince McMahon might revive the XFL

Deadspin and the Washington Post are reporting that WWE CEO Vince McMahon is considering bringing back the XFL, an alternative football league to the NFL that lasted just one season back in 2001. A WWE spokesman neither confirmed nor denied the story, according to Deadspin's David Bixenspan (@davidbix).

Spring time fantasy football, I'll take that. Would be nice if it was more teams than 8 though.

Would be worth giving a try again. I'm sure they learned a lot the first time around. Won't be the same without He Hate Me, but might as well go for it.

    I don't know

NBC and the WWF both lost $35 million on their $100 million investment in the league's inaugural season.
Although committing to broadcast two seasons, NBC pulled out of its broadcast contract for the XFL after the inaugural season, citing the poor viewership.

people keep talking about ratings being down

but they are literally down for every entire type of broadcast on cable TV

soooo many people have pulled the plug

there are soooo many different ways to watch a game now

there are soooo many other things that people want to watch, binge watch, do on the internet ect.

Problem with it is the watered down product from the NFL

People just don't watch or attend games which means no advertising dollars which is doomsday for owners and tv networks

It's going to succeed this time. I want to invest. Everything is pro wrestling. Dudes are going to be cutting promos and having twitter beefs. Could see recently graduated college stars that don't project well to the nfl and would be a late round pick, being stars in the xfl.

Trying to think of a player example, PSU's QB fits the mold. He'll be in the heisman talk all year, but won't get drafted. Maybe late round under perfect conditions.

If I had to guess, I would say that this is merely an attempt to challenge the NFL to the point where they could be bought out by the NFL. Shrewd business move if it works out.

    i don't think so

    i think it's legit

plus that concept is insane, the only person that could buy out the nfl is bill gates and like 15 of his friends

if you follow the current generation of big-time ncaa wrestlers, they LOVE the cutting promo shit talking game...i wanted to invest into the wwe because of this, but it looks like vince is going to try and take it to football

hope we get some of those legit boxing matches vince put on in the wwf, mvp of the league vs the current wwe champ...penetrate yeah!!!

No, I'm saying the NFL would buy out a few XFL teams if the XFL became a real source of competition for the NFL.

Good post Archie. I was just going to ask that question. Furthermore.... in 2001 wasn't 35 million a lot to lose??? That was a lot of damn money. This was a HUGE LOSS for McMahon. Very surprised he's willing to roll the dice again?

Not to mention... selling his own stock?? WWE stock down 8.1% now.

    Sometimes McMahon leaps before thinking.

This might be a total derailment.

Even though the NFL lost some momentum... it's not demolished.

In fact... the NFL from a financial standpoint is probably... A LOT STRONGER in 2017 than 2001.

So, why would McMahon win now with the XFL?

Same slope to climb. Not going to happen.

I like McMahon... but he's dreaming. La-La land.

McMahon better be worried about his WWE. I mean... yes you're on top now... but what the hell is Wrestling Entertainment?

It's the same product over... and over... and over again. The WWE could easily fizzle out.

Yes, I know... caused the stock to drop 8%.

Was that a smart move for other investors who are involved? Might start some other sell offs?

I don't understand McMahon and this passion for football. Just give it up.

May be a tax move. Starting next year, I believe you are required to do first in first out with shares. I am a derivatives trader and looked at some WWE LEAP calls today. Farthest I could see were JULY18 and I wanted to go a full year out or more. WWE just started partnering with Facebook which should bode well for them.

It could be some sort of tax move just before the end of the year... you could be right.

If it is a tax move... then McMahon is officially going to try the football business again... he would have no other choice but to put the money in play...

If McMahon's pal Trump gets involved I could see it happen but it will still fail.......

The NFL is just too ingrained into American culture.......

I mean Trump's plead to boycott the NFL did not work as I see many of the
Trump supporters here who said they were "done with the NFL" back to watching
and wagering on it as if the up rise never happened...........
