Chargers @ Chiefs
Recommendation: Chargers +1.5
Week 17 of the NFL season is all about finding the right spots. This one sets up perfectly for the Chargers. Win and they’re in, it’s that simple. The Chiefs have been an above average unit all season but it’s looking like they’re going to come up just short of the postseason. Not only would KC need a win, but they would also need the Ravens to lose vs. the Browns and the Texans to fall against the Jags, who haven’t won a game on the road all season. I just can’t see the Chiefs getting up for this game like the Chargers will be. Alex Smith is also out for the Chiefs.
That leaves the unproven Chase Daniel to start on Sunday. Kansas City’s receivers haven’t scored a touchdown all season, and that’s not likely to change with Daniel behind center. San Diego will be able to focus primarily on stopping the run, something the Chiefs have actually been struggling with the last few weeks. Running back Jamaal Charles has rushed for 52 yards or fewer in 3 of his last 4 games. The inability to run coupled with no passing game whatsoever is going to make it very difficult for the Chiefs to score. San Diego is better off offensively and will have more motivation considering the circumstances. Take the Chargers.
