No longer the 'Aints, look for the Saints to roll today against the Buccaneers in front of what should be another raucous New Orleans crowd at the Superdome.
If you would have predicted before the season where these two teams would be in the standings entering this game there is no doubt the places would be reversed.
Tampa Bay seemed to have everything going for it starting the year but has been nothing but a train wreck so far. The TB offense got off to a horrible start and matters got worse when the Buccaneers lost starting quarterback Chris Simms to injury. Tampa Bay is now going to be starting rookie QB Bruce Gradkowski. The former MAC star in college will be making his first NFL start in a charged up Superdome. He will find out there’s a big difference between the defensive speed of players in the MAC versus players in the NFL!
The Saints are coming off their first loss of the year at Carolina last week but nearly pulled off a 4th-quarter comeback win. New Orleans did outgain the Panthers in that contest and the near comeback does leave them with momentum heading into this week’s contest. Of course the Saints are also motivated by playing just their second game back in the Superdome. They rolled Atlanta on a Monday night game in their first opportunity here and we expect them to roll to a big win again this afternoon.
The Saints' offense has found life this year thanks in most part to quarterback Drew Brees. Although the former Chargers signal caller has not been spectacular, he has been very steady and has given them a chance to win each week.
An energized home crowd will be too much for Gradkowski in his first start as the Saints remain in first place with a convincing win. Some will be scared to lay the points with the ‘Aints. But trust us, the Saints ain’t the ‘Aints’ anymore. Play New Orleans minus the points.
