    searching for arbs

ok, I'm not sure how many people will want to help me with this, but I have trouble understanding the formulas for finding whether a bet is an arb or not. I have found an arb calculator and I have no idea how to work it. Normally my math isn't this bad, but for some reason it doesn't compute.
Something about there needs to be a difference of less than 100% however that works out?

Anyways, if anyone here has the patience to break this down so that a dummy (me) can grasp it, I would be much obliged.

When using US odds (in two-way events) it is really simple. Suppose the best odds there are for Team A is -200. To be an arb the other side has to be better than +200. To convert to percentages is also easy.

    -200 as a percentage is 200 divided by 200+100 or 66.67%
    +200 as a percentage is 100 divided by 200+100 or 33.33%

In the case of a genuine arb say -110 and +120, this same formula applies i.e.

    -110 as a percentage is 110 divided by 110+100 = 52.38%
    +120 as a percentage is 100 divided by 120+100 = 45.45%
In this case the total of 97.83% means that the books would pay you $100 for every $97.83 you stake.

That would be a break even proposition for you.

ok, if I understand (-140) and (+120) would be arbable because:

    100 divided by 140+100=41.67% and
100 divided by 120+100=45.45% being under 100% total?

No. This is not an arb.

    -140 as a percentage is 140 divided by 140+100 = 58.33%

for odds better than +100 the numerator is 100
for odds worse than +100 the numerator is the based on the odds.
