I don't understand the basics of odds and betting. I have googled phrases like betting, sports wager, odds, etc and I don't find an intro to the basics of how betting works. Point spreads aside, simple win/lose bet might be given as Kentucky over Indiana 3:1.
My understanding is that if I bet $25 on Kentucky, and they win, I receive my stake and $25. If Indiana wins, I lose the stake. On the other side of the bet, a $25 wager on Indiana in that game will pay the stake plus $75, $100 payout.
If that is the case, where does it go from there and how can I find a primer on this subject ?
