    indy/msu and duke/terps previews

heres a previews i stumbled accross, and thought some of you posters might want to check it out.

    **Indiana at Michigan State**

Indiana (10-2 straight up, 4-5 against the spread) is back in the top 10 for the first time in three seasons following Saturday's 81-79 home win over previously unbeaten Ohio State. However, the Hoosiers failed to cover the spread as 5 1/2-point favorites. Marco Killingsworth scored a game-high 26 points to pace IU, while four other players posted double-figure efforts.

--Michigan State (12-4 SU, 5-9 ATS) has lost back-to-back games on the road in Big Ten play. In fact, the Spartans have been beaten by double digits in both spots, losing 60-50 at Illinois and 82-63 at Wisconsin.

--Mike Davis' team has won three of its four true road games, posting a 2-1 spread record. IU won both SU and ATS at Ball State and at Charlotte, but it lost outright at Indiana State as a 6 1/2-point 'chalk.'

--Indiana sophomore forward D.J. White re-injured his foot against Ohio State. White is "out" for 4-6 weeks, possibly the rest of the year. As discussed in the Bonus Nuggets section of yesterday's CBB Tip Sheet, White was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year last season, expected to team with Killingsworth to form one of the nation's premier frontcourts. But White sustained a stress fracture to his left foot back on Nov. 4 and was out of action until Dec. 19. Now, just as he was starting to get back into playing shape, White is on the sidelines again.

--Killingsworth has been one of the most consistent players in the country this year. The transfer from Auburn hasn't shown any rust from a one-year layoff, leading IU in scoring (19.7 points per game) and rebounding (7.5 RPG), while converting 62.9 percent of his shots from the floor.

--The 'over' has cashed in three consecutive meetings between these Big Ten rivals.

--The 'under' is 6-2-1 overall for the Hoosiers, but just 1-1-1 in their road outings.

--Most sports books are listing the Spartans as 5 1/2-point favorites.

--ESPN will provide television coverage at 7:00 p.m. Eastern.

    **Syracuse at Notre Dame**

--Most spots are listing Notre Dame (9-4 SU, 6-5 ATS) as a 1 1/2-point favorite with a total of 141. The Fighting Irish have lost their first two games in Big East play, but this will be their first conference game at home.

--Syracuse (13-2 SU, 5-7 ATS) has won seven of the last eight head-to-head meetings between these schools.

--The Orangemen are playing their first true road game of the season. They have left the Carrier Dome for three games at neutral sites, posting a 2-1 record both SU and ATS.

--Since losing back-to-back games to Florida and Bucknell, Jim Boeheim's squad has won 10 in a row. However, the competition has been suspect and the Orangemen's play hasn't been particularly impressive, as evidenced by a mediocre spread record of 3-5-1.

--Notre Dame is led by a pair of seniors, guard Chris Paul and power forward Torin Francis. Paul is playing outstanding basketball, scoring 16.3 PPG and dishing out 6.5 assists per game. Francis is averaging 12.8 PPG and 9.3 rebounds per contest.

--Mike Brey's team lost its Big East opener in heartbreaking fashion, dropping a 100-97 decision at Pittsburgh in overtime. Quinn scored 16 consecutive points for the Irish late in the second half, finishing the game with 37 points, nine assists and six rebounds.

--The 'Cuse's lone spot as an underdog prior to this game was at Madison Square Garden, when the Gators beat the Orangemen 75-70 as three-point favorites in the finals of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.

--The 'under' is 6-3 in the last nine games between these Big East adversaries.

--ESPN will have the telecast at 7:00 p.m. Eastern.

    **Maryland at Duke**

--Most books have installed top-ranked and unbeaten Duke (14-0 SU, 6-6 ATS) as a 13-point favorite.

--Maryland (11-3 SU, 4-4 ATS) has won three straight against Duke, needing overtime in a pair of those triumphs. The Terrapins are 6-2 ATS in the last eight games against the Blue Devils. They won 75-66 in their last trip to Cameron Indoor Stadium on Jan. 26 of 2005, cashing monster money-line tickets as 12 1/2-point underdogs.

--Duke went to 2-0 in ACC action by virtue of Sunday's 82-64 win at Wake Forest. Mike Kryzewski's team easily covered the spread as a 7 1/2-point 'chalk.' The 'over' was looking golden in the first half until Shelden Williams drew his third foul, prompting Duke to use more clock with a lead in the last five minutes of the first half. Still, the game was easily on pace for an 'over' at intermission when Duke led 48-39. At halftime, the 87 points was well on its way to eclipse the 150-point mark. However, with Duke nursing a nice lead and dictation a slow pace in the second half, the 146 points came up short. Veteran gamblers, including yours truly, sensed this and "hedged out" at the break, backing the second-half 'under' (81....for a total of 168).

--Redick dropped 32 points on the Demon Deacons to leave Lawrence Joel Coliseum victorious for the first time. Lee Melchionni chipped in 17 points and five rebounds.

--Gary Williams' club is off an 84-70 loss at Miami as a three-point favorite, falling to 1-2 both SU and ATS on the road.

--Duke owns an 8-0 record at home, but it is just 2-4 ATS.

--The 'under' is 5-2-1 in the last eight head-to-head meetings between these schools.

--The 'under' is 4-2 for Duke at home, 2-2 for Maryland on the road.
