This story just sounds wack. One guy with a $10 bet has a book manager worried? So if it cashes it's only $50,000, big deal. Not to mention that the other 99.9% of players who placed wagers on Ncaab futures won't be cashing. So you're telling me they didnt take in atleast $50,000 in futures and won break even at worst? Wack

Even if this play hits, the Hilton will probably end up making more money from the whole scenario due to the media coverage/articles on it.

Gotta love if you were in a situation like that. 10 bucks to win a buttload? Bets like that are made to be hedged. Hope the guy gets paid and covers his ass to make sure he does.

hilton gives out free room tabs worth more than 50k to their whales. they are just happy they will not be paying off thousands of bets on the either ohio st or kansas this time.

No doubt, I am sure anyone that bets much is just giggling at this article. D2Bets, you had my thoughts exactly. I'll admit I had some Kansas money at +550 to win the tournament, no big deal. I was feeling pretty good about myself, doing some crowing to my family when it was down to the final 8. Looked like they would breeze into the final. Did a check at Betmaker and could have had 70 to 1 on VCU before any of the 4 games started. I calculated the odds and it seemed like it should have been closer to 90 to 1 at that time considering Florida would likely come out of of the other region and good competition out of the other side of the bracket. I joked to someone at work about throwing down 20 or 30 bucks on VCU. Early in the first half when KU was down 15 points I was able to get VCU +4.5 and basically hedged out of my KU bet. Was hopeful that they would come back to win by a few points but it didn't happen. And for the Sweet 16 true odds should have been around 300 to 1.

No one is sweating at the books. Give me a break. One single ticket for 50k? They easily took more futures action on one single #1 seed than this. Where did all that money go?

hard to hedge this 50k - you would theoretically take butler -140 or so $7000-5000 and then if vcu won that you would take uconn/kent - 200 for 24000-12000 or so.
that way you would win 5000 no matter what, and if vcu won you would still be up 19,000.

the reason it's hard to hedge is the person making $10 bets would have to potentially put $31,000 worth of cash in play.

Books would clean up futures-wise if this happens. No way this book doesn't have more than $50K in futures for powerhouses like Duke and Oh st.

    10 to win 50,000, damn!

He should hedge, VCU won't get past Butler and if they somehow do, no way they get through Kentucky or UConn.

    "no way"??

i am pretty sure there was no way vcu would beat georgetown, purdue, and kansas all by double digits either

Butler and UConn are tougher than those teams, except maybe Kansas.

the linesmakers and 99% of the public would disagree with you about butler being tougher than purdue.

Maybe that is why 99% of gamblers lose then?

Unreal that despite making back to back Final Fours, people still think Butler is nothing because it is not a big name. Butler would easily beat Purdue.

depends on what time of the season you are talking about and whether or not butler is making 3s.
keep in mind this butler team lost to evansville and youngstown st, and also lost twice to uw-milwaukee this year. if pittsburgh, odu, OR florida could make a freethrow we wouldn't be having this discussion because butler would be out.

nice story and i hope these guys cash but at some point VCU is going to run outta gas. I cant see them beating Kentucky with the kind of defense they play and Uconn and Kemba.

Almost every tournament team has a loss just as bad as Youngstown State, that is no way to judge a team.

What about all the money they made from pretty much every other future bet? 99% of future bets were on teams that are elimianated.

no way to judge a team??
when they play an easy schedule, and have 4 bad losses on that easy schedule, then they SHOULD AND WILL get judged by those bad losses.

youngstown st's rpi is 296 out of 345. if you can find 3 OTHER TEAMS out of the top 40 in the brackets (seeded 10 or higher) that have a loss to a team that bad i will give you 20 points.

shouldn't be hard to do since ALMOST EVERY tournament team has a loss to a team with an rpi of 296, another to a team ranked 136 and 2 more to a team 94th

I highly doubt the Hilton is sweating a $10 ticket on VCU. They have more than enough from the other futures to cover that measly ticket.
