Are the LA Lakers a lock to take the Western Conference?

Are they a surefire lock to reclaim the West? If so, wouldn't taking the Lakers futures wager for the Western Conference be a lock? After all, isn't the most likely challenger for the throne going to come out of the East (ie. Cleveland, Orlando, etc.)? Honestly, who thinks that Dallas or Denver (K-Mart may be out) will take out the Lakers without homecourt advantage? Any thoughts fellas?

Nuggets should put up a great fight. They will definitely WANT it more than the Lakeshow.

The Nuggets and Mavs haven't been playing well lately, so I am not so worried about them. The Jazz are picking up some steam heading into the playoffs and may surprise some people. In the end, it'll probably be the Lakers again.

IMO, the Jazz are the most dangerous team in the west after the Lakers, and they can't beat LA in a series as they struggle far too much with LA's length every time they play.

Like in most sports, the most dangerous team is the one that is playing the best during any given stretch. For a while I thought Mavs could challenge lakers... boy was I wrong.

No body wants it more than Kobe. Dallas might be the only team that could stop La in a 7 game series. But Kobe is just too focused. Western Conference takes the title this year, whether its Denver, Dallas, or La coming out.

Put 3k on the Lakers to win the Western Conference last year with a good deal of confidence, wouldn't dream of doing it this year.

mavs and jazz? come on, they are no where near the lakers, lakers would have to let them win

denver looked set to claim the throne, but the last 3 games cast some doubt over that notion

Only comp for a specfic H2H for the Lakers are Portland, Phoenix, or San Antonio ... it's all about the match ups. Utah, Dallas, and Denver are Lakers Lite. Only team I would think of being a true live dog would be Portland

Their win at San Antonio pretty much put things away.

Dallas is 6 games back and they've been pretty bad recently.

At one point their lead had shrunk to three, but they won 7 in a row while Dallas and Denver struggled.
