How do I protect myself from going broke?

I went from $200 to $1500 bankroll friday and saturday. I lost one bet. Cubs/Whitesox under 11.5 or 10.5 points, I forget. Anyways, I can't keep going all in. Nothing lasts forever. At $1500, what would be the correct percentage to use as a unit? I'm not worried about how much money I bet. I'm more concerned with what percentage of my bankroll should be used for a unit. I feel pretty good with all of my bet selections. That's why I place them. Cavs 4 units, Nets 4 units to lose, UFC 4 units, Serena 4 units, mismatches 4 units, everything else, 1 unit. What % should my units be? What's the max % of total bankroll to wager in one day? I'm just trying to be here for the long run and protect myself from upsets. Thanks in advance!!!

Youre units should be 5 percent of your bankroll to not go broke IMO

At most. On a $1500 bankroll, maybe start with a $40-50 unit.

Thanks guys. Imma keep it like that. Whenever I reach $2000, I'll take out $500. I'm trying to fund my photography/motorcycle addiction. All proceeds will go to Canon "L" lenses, bike gear, and Yamaha R1 payments. (0 down/$199 per month).

Bet365 said that I have to rollover my deposit ($200) and freebet ($200) money 3 times to withdraw. I'm over halfway to wagering the $1200 total 24 hours after I opened the account! LOL!!! I've got 89 more days to do it. I've decided to take out everything except $500 since my units will be $25. Certain teams and fighters will be more, but NEVER over 4 units. Ya'll ever thought about opening up a small bank account in Europe? You don't have to pay Netteller or wahtever to get your money. The gambling sites are linked to your bank account like Paypal and all deposits and witdrawals are free...

Which Canon body you have and why L lenses? They're expensive.

If you play 4 unit bets then your base unit have to be 1% not 5% hence a bet becomes 20% of BR with makes BR expectancy into negative!

    BR: $1500 , 4-unit play: $60

    Thats my thoughts about MM

Depends on your edge. It's different if your recent performance is indicative of your true skill level with a lil good luck tossed in for bonus as opposed to a slightly better than 50-50 capper who's on a heater. If you're good I would recommend between 3-5% per unit. Be honest with yourself on your ability, kill as much greed as possible and watch the profit multiply . If you're good enough the unit sizes will increase proportional to your roll. It's all %'s and not set numbers if your goal is long term success

Also keep studying and thinking out of the box on MM. When it comes to line shopping, middling, arb'ing there's just so many ways to keep that ball rolling if you can cap the games yourself

Cash out 300% of your initial deposit ( $600 leaving with a remaining balance of $900). Now play out your balance risking no more than up to 5 Percent at any given moment, by doing this, your minimizing your loses. Remember, sports wagering is a grind just as is a regular job. Everyone wants the big hit to arrive, however as time passes, the payout shall land on your lap with Patience.

    Canon 40D
    28-135mm
    135mm L

The L lenses are metal unlike some of the cheaper plastic lenses and bodies from Canon. They are also moisture and dust proof. Honestly, there is no comparison when you have shot with Canon's best glass. Better F Stops and bokeh can make an ugly chick look hot. It's all about the lighting and softly blurring out everything in the picture except your subject. I only want 2 more lenses right now. 50mm L or 85mm L for portraits and 14mm L for scenery.

Right now I'm just messing around. I've done a few weddings for friends. I've taken a couple of portraits of friends and their kids. I'm enjoying shooting these European women over here. It's cool because I don't charge them, and I get to build my portfolio for free. I have a decent camera and portfolio so when I ask the random hot chick to do a photo shoot they don't think that I'm a perv anymore. LOL!!! Ultimately, I want to shoot Maxim style photos and get paid.

Cool. It's in Great British Pounds, so I'm working with nice square figures.
    BR: 1000GBP ($1500)
    Unit: 10GBP ($15)
    Locks: 40GBP ($60)

great advice in this thread. I always use 5% but never make a play larger than 2 units.

It all started when I bet one of my boys $100 that the Cowboys would beat the Saints. It was my first bet and I didn't know about odds or spreads. I'm from San Antonio and I was just tired of him talking so much shit about how good the Saints were. Anyways, later he told me that he uses Coral.co.uk and that I would have made over $700 because of the odds online. I opened up an account on New Years and went on a one month tear and then withdrew my funds then stopped. I think it was several $100, $200 and $500 bets. These weren't no 1/100 odd bets, either. They were 1/1 or somewhere close around there. I won them all and lost a couple $20 bets. I was like 25-5 or something. My girl made me stop even though I was winning constantly. She then said it's cool if I place $20 bets. I run this sh1t, not her. She was just worried that I'd get addicted. I told her I'm not addicted, it's just an easy way to make money.

@ThisGuy: I was obviously lucky for the WHOLE month of January. I also think that I was pretty lucky to go flawless all weekend. I'm using $15 units and $60 locks from now on until I prove to myself that I'm not a fluke. It's just annoying when you're sure a team will win and bet $15 instead of $250 and they end up winning...

You should take the money out as soon as you are able to and buy what you want. What I've learned over the last 3 years doing this is that, rarely do you get to the goal that you set. Betting has a way of holding on to you and not letting you go, win or lose. At the very least, set a minimum you will allow yourself to go down to, for instance, quitting at $1000 if you get to that point. Good luck!!

But I find it so much sweeter when a lock loses and I didn't bet the farm than any big win I have. I'm actually beaming right now that OKC is getting waxed by Indy because I wanted to load up on that line soooo bad

At the end of the day it's just a single game and i'm guessing there won't be a shortage in the future. It didn't take too many learning experiences of dumping 25% of my roll I've worked so hard to grow to get that point across.

My rule of thumb now is what's the minimum profit that I'm happy with but know that I won't feel sick if I lose and that varies from spot to spot, edge to edge.

    Never Chase

    Play less games a day.

Bet more 2nd Halves than full games. ( 2nd Halves are where you can find value daily.

    Dont waste money doing parlays

Get the best line available if possible

If you are going big on plays, make it a rarity.

    Dont go all in

Yeah, I thought that the Bulls would rape the Heat last night. I can't win them all. I just tailed Laker_Crazy and Vietussports since we had the same opinions last night. It doesn't matter though. I flipped $200 to over $1500 in a week and got my $300 bonus last night from Bet365 for rolling over my deposit and free bets 3 times each in a week instead of 90 days. LOL!!! I really don't care how many of my bets that you think are stupid. Just as long as I'm up units every night...
