I wonder if this signing will please Kobe.

Fisher reportedly set to rejoin Lakers next season

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Lakers and Derek Fisher have agreed in principle to a three-year, $14 million deal, according a report by the Los Angeles Times on Thursday.

Two weeks ago, Fisher asked to be released from his contract with the Utah Jazz in order to relocate to a city with more appropriate medical care for his one-year-old daughter Tatum, who is battling a rare form of eye cancer.

Fisher first must clear waivers before he can offically sign with the Lakers, who already have three point guards under contract for next season.

"That position has been something that we identified as an area where we felt we needed to improve," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak told the Times. "Not a slight to Jordan (Farmar) and our drafted rookie (Javaris Crittenton), who's just 19 years old, but at 19- and 20-years-old with limited NBA experience, we're not going to think that they're going to be the ones that can lead the team next year."

The 32-year-old Fisher will return to the place where he had the most success, helping the Lakers to three straight NBA titles from 2000-02. However, he left in 2004, when he signed a six-year, $37 million deal with the Golden State Warriors, who traded him to Utah two years later.

Fisher, who also serves as president of the players' union, averaged 10.1 points and 3.3 assists in 82 games last season.
