It's not like there is no counter-argument. Let's assume Wall is out for year.
Wizards kept it close most of the game in Atlanta. This was after they won the
first game so Atlanta was really desperate to win at home. The Hawks played their best
basketball - but for most of the game, Wiz kept it within scratching distance
and even tied it in the 3rd. Then they couldn't keep Atlanta down.
Pierce was on fire from long. Gortat was dominating in the paint. Sessions
had sparks but didn't manage the floor like Wall does. There is a possibility
that Sessions will be more acclimated to starting and with the long layoff
should be a better play setter in game 3. Sessions is a capable PG. Temple
and Pierce can run plays. One thing about Pierce is he has subbed for down
point guards hundreds of times in his career. He can take the ball up court
and function as a PG. I would keep Pierce and Sessions off the floor and run
them separately so that Atlanta always has something to worry about.
Wiz have capable veterans in Rasual Butler, Nene and Drew Gooden. Porter
is playing well and of course Gortat.. you get Sessions distributing the ball
with these guys and then throw in Pierce on separate rotation.
Coaching, Sessions getting acclimated and vets stepping up will be the key
to victory for Washington. Nene, Gortat have to lock down defensively in the paint
with Temple, Pierce, Sessions, Butler terrorizing the perimeter shooters.
Wizards have had almost a full week to prep for this. It should be a great game.
