ESPN news is reporting that Chris Webber signed with the Pistons today.
Why in the world would the Pistons sign a guy like Webber. I mean his career was over about 3 or 4 years ago, and it's obvious his best a well behind him. Personally, I feel this signing will hurt Detroit more than it will help them.
2. Keeps the heat off the front office for a while -- Detroit is one of those multiple-all-sports-radio-station towns, so there has likely been much drumbeating to do something to a shore up the inside.
3. Local product and Detroit tends to overrate their own.
(Speaking of overvalued Detroit players, the past-his-prime-or-has-lost-interest Ben Wallace couldn't go for the Bulls today and so Tyrus Thomas came out of mothballs and was a big factor in the Spurs going down.)
I don't think he can be a role player at all though Jay.
Webber is just so use to be one of the main guys on the court thru out his whole career. I still think he just does not realize his decline even at his advanced age. I feel those factors will show quite clearly to the Pistons that it was a mistake to sign him when he makes his first appearance on the court.
